Ive had a Blitz Dual SBC installed with a 1/4 DIN sized control unit in the usual place of the cubby hole under the stereo.
Just wondering about alternative locations - ideally I wanted to fit inside the ashtray which would conceal it with the lid closed (think Ive watched too many James Bond films LOL) but theres not enough depth behind it.
Other locations Ive considered and rejected are:
In the coin tray but wont be able to read display easily.
Instead of clock/vent but worried it would look like a botch.
In the storage bin behind passenger seat but agian wont be able to read display easily!
In the glove box but dont want to have to lower glove box lid.
Pics of installs appreciated especially if you did manage to get it in ashtray :-)

How about in a custom roof pod replacing the interior light mounting?
for the look
you can get custom roof pods for the AVCR not sure about the blitz though

Only thing with that is how would you get the vacuum line to it?

Been looking at installing in vent but not quite happy with it.
Just wondering now whether its possible to take my EBC apart (yikes! I know LOL). See in the pic below it looks like the case splits into 2 and was wondering whether the "head" could be removed and just thispart installed in the ash tray and the rst of the unit just somewhere behind dash - obviously the wiring would have to be extended and it depends whether theres just a couple of wires or a printed ccircuit board etc - anyone had ones of these things apart?
This is rough approximatiion of where I want it to go but underneath the ashtray flap so you cant see it unless you pull ashtray flap down

I've got my EBC mounted underneath the steering wheel cowl. Nicely out of the way

Can you post up a pic monkey?
Does your knees not catch on it?

When I bought my car it had the turbo timer (similar size) mounted on the underside of the steering cowl. I've since moved it in place of the clock - ideally I'd like an RHD version of the EMS Powered widget that replaces the clock with a pod for these but no one makes them

I don't see that happening Jeff, surely there's the floor of the tunnel in the way? You'd have to have the unit at such a shallow angle that you wouldn't be able to see the display...

Thats my problem :-(
Thats why I'm wondering whether its possible to split the unit into 2 then that piece forward of the red line would easily fit - just dont know whats inside unless I take it apart which I dont want to do unless I'm sure whats there.

I very much doubt it - I'd expect the display and controls to be surface mount onto a PCB the length of the unit. As you say though, impossible to say without taking it to bits!
I want some RHD ones of these... http://www.emspowered.com/storefront/in ... cts_id=210

Me too - in fact thinking about it I reckon the larger part will slide back so the pcb stays attached to front part. Just trying to find pics on netI'd expect the display and controls to be surface mount onto a PCB the length of the unit.

This is incredibly unhelpful, but it would've been a lot easier if you'd got an AVCR http://www.imoc.co.uk/forums/viewtopic. ... c&start=20

Thought about adapting one of these too if I could find a way of making the ebc autimaticly angle upwards when its opened

Re: How to fit a Blitz EBC into the Ashtray (with Video)
i had mine apart when I discovered it was leaking and I'm pretty certain it was a single board with a case wrapped round it.
Re: How to fit a Blitz EBC into the Ashtray (with Video)
Allan can you remember how the pcb is connected to the lcd display and control buttons? would it be practical to extend the wiring or not?
Re: How to fit a Blitz EBC into the Ashtray (with Video)
Actually this may be better - I'm assuming since my EBC is a 1/4 DIN it should fit in one of the trays - just wondering whether I could use the mechanism to push the bottom of the cup holders out to mak ethe ebc angle when it comes out

Re: How to fit a Blitz EBC into the Ashtray (with Video)
sorry jeff - was a couple of years ago but it's only the 2 screws holding it together. Just go easy when you take it apart. The cup holder might work though
