Thanks for the replies - so is it possible to actually get a fairly reasonable mpg with one then? My current car already seems to be costing me a fair bit in fuel!
I think Dale is just wishing like me!
So is there any difference in ecconomy between the rev1/2 and rev3+ engines? Im sure i just read somewhere that somebody reckons the rev1 and 2 is much worse than later cars? Does that apply to the NA as well?

Just remember as soon as you get into town/country roads and start putting your toe down for roundabouts etc. the MPG heads south rapidly!

Strange, in every other car i've owned once you tip over the 85-90mph marker MPG drops rapidly.
For example, in my old MG ZR i could average 36 ar 85, i tried sitting at 90 and it'd drop to 33 or so. Same with the passat (just lower figures, heavy car).
