My car was idling rough again so I decided to check for vacuum leaks.
I found a leak in a vacuum hose running to this part, but I don't know what it is or does? Anyone got any ideas?
(the vacuum hose connects at the bottom in case you're wondering)
What does this part do?

Re: What does this part do?
My money is on your car having air con and thats some sort of idle up solenoid or switching valve. It could also possibly be part of the cruise control system if your car has that.
Got a part number on it? i will tell you exactly what its for.

never seen one of those before, is there a part number on it ?
Re: What does this part do?
I don't have aircon. or cruise control.
No idea about part number, I'll take it off tomorrow and see if it says anything.
The vacuum tube was connected to the "free" connector on the part below. What's normally connected here?

Is there only 1 vacuum pipe and 1 wire connected to it ?

One wire and a vacuum pipe. But I could be wrong since it's in a hard to reach place.

is it part of your "economy" light set up?
UK cars don't have this thats why we can't identify it!!

There is a single-hose, one wire plus earth, vacuum switch associated with the cruise control system but it's normally attached to the bulkhead in the middle, on a plate with the cc's vacuum pump. and if you haven't got cc anyway..

Re: What does this part do?
I fixed the vacuum leak and whil doing a test drive I noticed that the economy lights are working way better now. So it probably is part of them. (I still think it's a rather large part to operate 2 little lights)
Rough idle isn't fixed, but so cold outside.
