Re: [Mk2] [Turbo] boot mounted intercooler
from the underside of the car mate, cut a hole in your boot
![](./images/smilies/spacer.gif)
but needs somewhere to flow,
either vent in top of boot or holes in rear panel

Re: [Mk2] [Turbo] boot mounted intercooler
yeh ivee seen someone cut a hole in the top of the boot and put a small scooby vent in there, i personally didnt like the look of it, but any sort of vent in the top should help airflow
Re: [Mk2] [Turbo] boot mounted intercooler
This is what Phoenix power were doin in the mid 90's:

Re: [Mk2] [Turbo] boot mounted intercooler
do you need to put some sort of scope under the intercooler or would it flow that way with just the fans?

Looking at your garage am I correct in thinking you are still running mainly stock turbo etc,?,
![](./images/smilies/spacer.gif)
![](./images/smilies/spacer.gif)
if you are why bother cutting up your boot when a good side mount will
![](./images/smilies/spacer.gif)
Re: [Mk2] [Turbo] boot mounted intercooler
The bootmount in my car pushes air down through the i/c and out of the hole in the boot floor- considering helping the boot breath with some subtle mods
(really dont want to use a scoop).![](./images/smilies/spacer.gif)
![](./images/smilies/spacer.gif)
Only issue sucking air from under the car is the exhaust right under the i/c- not an ideal source of cold air!
![](./images/smilies/spacer.gif)
TBH if I was starting from scratch I'd use a water charge cooler instead.

Re: [Mk2] [Turbo] boot mounted intercooler

Re: [Mk2] [Turbo] boot mounted intercooler
If thats aimed at me, I have no idea.
Car hasn't moved for 18 months so could be some time before I get any data.

Re: [Mk2] [Turbo] boot mounted intercooler
I haven't even seen my car since July 07!
![](./images/smilies/spacer.gif)
![](./images/smilies/spacer.gif)
Nothing up with the car, just me not applying pressure to the tuner.
Time for that to change though over the coming weeks.![](./images/smilies/spacer.gif)

When cutting through the boot floor do people add braces or something to strengthen the body or is that not needed?
Re: [Mk2] [Turbo] boot mounted intercooler
I know people generally run these on higher power cars, but I also dont buy the
'sidemount up to 400' rule- on a track day, intake temps get very high, and lower temps are a good thing full stop.![](./images/smilies/spacer.gif)
![](./images/smilies/spacer.gif)
Has anyone done this on a fairly standard turbo setup?
I wonder what the difference is in lag?

Re: [Mk2] [Turbo] boot mounted intercooler
It's having a heat shield put back on, flush with bodywork to front, with tapered gap towards the back of car.
Plus 2 Spal fans on top of IC to pushair through.![](./images/smilies/spacer.gif)
