[Mk2] [Generic] I Need a BORDER bumper!! fairly urgently!!

Post by RyanRs »

Mods - please dont stick this in the 'wanted section' as no one looks in there and i have had a post in there for a good 4 months now, yet still missed out 4 times!!

Anyways, im going to be able to drive my car for the 1st time after extensive rebuilding for the past 2 years! only thing stopping me now is i need a border bumper so i can get it down my mates bodyshop and get the last bits finished!!

Has anyone got a decent fitting / good quality border front bumper that they can sell me? i have cash waiting!

Alternatively i would buy one new, but i dont know where to get one other than StylingFX and Replikit. Replikits bumpers look poo and stylingFX have gone bust! -Any other suggestions to where i can get one new?

Thanx

Ryan,

Think you can get one from here:
http://www.madmotors.co.uk/catalog/prod ... ts_id=5678

I haven't used them and don't know on fitment but heard he can get them quickly enough. Like all aftermarket stuff will take some work to fit?

Hope that helps. Good luck.

I personally thought the replikit bumper at JAE looked rather poo!

i picked it up and it wobbled more than a jelly on the plate !

Also, i see them doing the old 'Test fit before you buy' on a skyline, and i see them getting in a bit of a picnic cos the front bumper was too big! haha!

Btw toxo , hows your border bumper ...dammm you ](*,) ](*,) lol .. if ever you decide you cba to fit it... sell it my way!!

It's not too bad... could be better tbh but it was never gonna fit like genuine for £120 was it. Doesn't line up to the driver's side wing very well. Gonna have to pull it about and see if I can make it work. Also it's never been fitted so I've gotta do all the cut outs for the lights and toblerones and stuff so am being very careful and taking my time!! Anything is better than my current bomex, I think that must be a replikit!!

yea mate, thats my worry. i had experience of buying from one of these little knockout bumper companies in the past when i purchased a cossie front bumper for my old mk5 escort. it took 2 people to pick it up, not because it was heavy but because it flexed so far it would start splintering!! on top of that it had no mounts fixed on it , they had to be moulded on which was a right pita!!

tbh i think i might just buy that genuine border kit and be done with it 8)

We have the border available, GUARANTEED to fit or your money back, you can see our fitment in the Replikit section of the forum. As for Japshow the skyline bumper wasnt a brill fit becasue the one we were fitting was a spec one early skyline bumper and we were fitting it to a SPEC 2 CAR the front end is slightly different, however we still made it fit in the end and you can see the result on skyline owners club.

As for the kit wobbling???? the bumpers are after all fiberglass, we use 2,5 layers of glass which is more than enough fiberglass. if there were too many layers the bumper would be too heavy. Border themselves only use 2 layers a total weight of 600 matting. We use 750 as we feel it needs the extra 150 for structure.

Have you ever picked up a standard MR2 bumper without it ''wobbling''?

Genuine Border front ends are made from urethene, not fiberglass, as per the stock front end. They also replicate the complete attachment structure, and fit without modification to the front end or car.

A message to Replikit.....

I was at JAE and thought I'd take a look at the bumpers you had on show. Mainly cos I could clearly see an MR2 border front bumper. And oh my word it looked COMPLETELY awful! Not a chance it was going to fit.
It's not the same part that you're offering money back gaurantee is it??

The standard bumpers do indeed wobble. But if you crash into it they only usually flex (given strength of impact) a thick border that is completely rigid will just crack and snap imo.

To be fair there is no give in the aftermarket kits anyway, a stone hits it the paint with shatter like a stone hitting a window the patterning of the crack.
