I've driven the 996, quick as fook but a bit boring IMO :? ... would take a nice tubby & spend the extra cash on mods over a 996 any day :thumleft:

I had a run in a couple of years ago with a 911, pretty sure it was an NA.

He wasnt pulling much on me on the open part of the road but as soon as it got slightly bumpy and twisty he was gone. It just outhandled the MR2 by a country mile. That's the difference between a modern "supercar" and an old sports car.

I dont even recall seeing his brake lights!

You must be bog standard. Ive raced my dads mates Carrera 4 a few times and i've stayed ahead. I won't say it was easy, but there wasn't a chance he was getting past, I was clearly pulling away from it the higher the speeds. Then again I am running a few mods at 265bhp with 270fp torque and i'm betting the tubby weighs less.

Oh ye of little faith

A stock tubby on cheap rubber acquitted itself well enough to win the slalom contest in the recent under £999 Practical Performance Car challenge. There were some decent handling cars in there too including a mk1.

i saw a new carrera 4s driving erratically the other day, ended up behind him at a set of lights with a couple of bends then a long straight, he went for it straight away, kept 10 foot from him up to changing into third then 20, then back to 10 up to high revs, i would say similar speed but considering im only running 1.1 bar with a few little mods im more than happy

it did sound rather nice, :eye: ....on another front,

He did totally out brake me

well totally stock REV2 tubby just a filter and a mbc set to stock pressure to prevent boost dropping at higher RPM's :thumleft: makes me happy and thats the important thing

got a DP & 5Zigen to go on and a few other bits that may help to wipe the smile from his face though

I think you people are missing the point here. Straight lines it's easy, but you make the roads a bit less than flat and straight and the Porsche just disapears.

Well I say disapears, what I mean is, it can cover that ground with far less effort or fear of death.

Hi Matt, the problem with coilovers is they are often too harsh for UK street or country lane driving. Some aftermarket dampers suffer the same problem - for eg. I had some perfectly functioning KYB adjustable dampers swapped out for adjustable Konis because they were just too hard for the street.

The amount of grip over bumps is now so much better and I have less problems with regard to the rear of the car ' skipping' if I encounter a bump part way through a corner. My wife's C2 VTS suffers from this problem a lot even with relatively new suspension - it's just too hard for our lousy roads and you can feel the rear of the car skipping and sliding a little when you hit a bump mid turn.

Maybe you should try some softer suspension and some R-compound tyres and see if you still feel the same way afterwards - I have a feeling you'll gain some new found respect for your car :D
