[Mk2] [Generic] Painting calipers and disc

Post by dawolf »

I'm thinking of painting my brake calipers and the part of the disc which attaches to the hub (previous owner did a bad job on these). Just got a few questions:

1) My car is black with white advan wheels which have dark blue strips, do you think dark blue calipers would look good?
2) What kind of paint will I need? Is it best to get a tin?
3) How long does it take to dry?

Think that's it for now. Lol.

Cheers.

on a black car i would go gold the paint is touch dry in a matter of a few hours you need high temp paint bought mine from ebay cost me £6, ive heard on here people have used hammerite, some you have to mix with hardner but mine was straight out of the tin, look on ebay here's mine i might paint mine gold instead of red :thumleft: :thumleft: :thumleft:

I always paint them black, and use hammerite, my last car I hammerited and I had that for 10 years and they never peeled.
I think that the only claipers that should stand out should be meaty brembos etc etc

Did mine with stuff from Demon Tweeks. Was £20 but the only place I could find orange... there's a premium member discount though.
Had to mix with hardner and as said dries in about 3 hrs sufficiently to put the wheel back on.
I reckon where you get it will depend on what colour you decide on... some are harder to source than others.

Okay, I popped into Halfords today and they have plenty of colours in the hammerite range. I'm now torn between dark blue and black. Hmm.

Go to B&Q - they do a range of spray paints called Plasi-Kote. Buy one can of primer and one can of you desired colour....

This stuff works great. I have painted calipers on a range of cars using this stuff - from Bright red to Fluorescent orange (which needs a base coat of white). It works, it lasts - it dries quckly and and its easy to apply.

I painted mine with hammerite. Done them Black with a silver flex. Looked pretty good on a black car. Hammerite lasted fine. Picked a small tin up from B&Q for cheap.

Halfrauds. Less than a tenner for heat resistant brake spray. Mask off ( half hour) what you dont want sprayed (discs/pads) and spray away. Touch dry in minutes and doesn't leave brush marks.
