Idle speed

Post by acexxx »

Hi there. When I got my car it wasn't idleing. It was at 700 rpm and kept cutting out. I have adjusted it now but I think its to high 1200rpm when hot. Whats the cold idle speed and the hot idle speed meant to be?

From my limited knowledge, it should be around 1500 cold and settle down to about 900 when hot but it's been a long while since i had an NA.

Your best bet is to run the car to normal temp I.E eactly half way up the temp gauge, then adjust the idle, i find that 950rpm is a good place for the idle to be, Jinxy

Do you need a tming lamp to do this, or can it be done by tweaking the Idle Control Valve whislt using the tacho for reference?

The NA doesn't have a ICV. It's just air screw adjustment

Yep just use the tacho, its easy, especially if you stand on the passenger side of the car with the engine lid up & peer through the vents at the gauges in the car you should be able to see the tacho through there, easyier than walking around the car every few seconds :thumleft: Jinxy
