[Mk2] [Turbo] Boinging Noise from Coilovers

Post by nikaiyo »

When i turn my steering wheel or go over certain bumbs, I get a strange boinging noise from my front suspension.
It sounds a bit like a spring compressing and letting go, or maybe turning on its mount #-o

They are TRD Coilovers anyone else had this problem or any ideas what it is coss its starting to get anoying

Thanks

my guess would be that the front top mounts are on the wrong way round.

Basically if the top mount is not in the correct orientation the spring will move about in the cup as the strut moves when the wheel is turned.

Thanks guys, makes a lot of sense :D

Is there a simple way to tell if the top mounts are oriented correctly? They are red pillow balls on the front (apexi??), is there an easy way to tell what way they should be oriented.

Thanks

Not suer specifically on the pillow ball mounts but for reference standard top mounts have an arrow on them which MUST point to the rear of the car.

Mate, put a pic up :thumleft: If they are like my Tein ones and adjustable for camber, then you want the Oval cut out running Horizontal across the front of the car with the cut out more to the centre of the car than the outside if that makes sense?

Left hand Top mount.

The other thing, is clean all the crud out from underneath the spring seats and spring top and bottom+Lube it because when they're compressed, if the springs cant rotate freely when you turn because of all the dirt/grit, they will twist then "ping" back like you describe :thumleft:

Broken Drop links used to give me a bonging sound.

Lol might be plan mate- will take some when its light and post-
Will lube em up ( ) and clean em after work, see if that helps :thumleft:

Plattmatt-- that is interesting, because I think the fronts are on their way out, if I disconnect them completely will it get worse do you recon? (assuming its drop link related)

my knackered old droplinks used to go bong after I went around corners, I think the momentum of the cornering moving them and causing them to hit something.

If you removed both the droplinks that leaves you with no Front antiroll bar, I think it would make the car a little more tail happy and probably wouldnt be a great idea.
