SMOKED BY A VAUXHALL CORSA!!!!!!

Post by timecorp1 »

Yesterday I was out-accelerated in 2nd and 3rd by an 08 vauxhall corsa VXR on a dual-carriageway - much to the amusement of my passenger!

He was pulling away from me all the time - I was slightly later on the power than him in second but even so - I have a rev 3 turbo and have recently achieved a quarter-mile of 13.3s!

He must have been modified, right?

PS don't tell anyone......

I've caught one of these up several times these last 2 weeks on the way to work in the morning (very bendy b-road). The drivers rubbish braking into every bend etc but going up to just over the limit on the straights so i've not gone to overtake him. Quite glad i've not tried reading this if they are the type of git i think they are then they'd probably floor it if I tried. In the N/A MR2 I think i'd have to really suprise him then. What engine do they have, i must admit I thought it was probably just a kit in the mould of "S-line" Audis and "M Tech" BMWs, didn't realise they had any real power?

There 189bhp with a 0-60 of 6.8s but take at look at this....

http://www.courtenaysport.co.uk/index.p ... c&docId=84

it could have quite easily be putting out 230bhp+

Well I really hope the handling has improved alot to be able to cope with all that power  my old old corsa of yonder year was an absolute raft and you didn't so much as drive it but sail it

Bit surprised you youngsters on here don't keep seem to keep up with the latest in affordable performance cars....the Corsa VXR is a fine machine...Performance Car mag recently gave it 8/10...strong torquey power,6 well chosen gears,Recaros standard, excellent handling (though not quite as good as the 197 Cup).
Who knows ...I might have one next year..? (...and I'm 59)...what might stop me?...perhaps three things:-

Well if its anything like the current Astra, it probably handles pretty well. The game has moved on a long way. Don't think that a current corsa VXR will be anything like an old corsa in the way it drives.

I had a Corsa (07 reg) 1.1 courtesy car and it had absolutely no steering feel or feedback. The interior was ok, but the driving position was soooo high (much prefer my 1998 Civic). The brakes were excellent, but a little too snatchy.

I realise that it was only a base spec, but it did give me the impression that the chassis was actually very stiff - the back even felt a little mobile with hard turn-in + braking.

For me, though, there isn't, and never will be, anything desireable about a Vauxhall hot hatch.

My mate works for vauxhall and currently has a vxr corsa as a demo car. They've not sold many due to the high insurance, tax and value. He cant get rid of his. You can pick up a year old astra vxr for the same money.

There aimed at young teenagers but none can afford them. How many clio 197's have you seen? bet its no way near the amount of 172/182 clios that are on the road.

I got beaten by a Corsa at the lights once. Should have known from the 3 a-pillar gauges that it was modded. I've never seen a car accelerate so quick. I was literally laughing whilst playing catch-up.

Fair play I say :thumleft:

You can drop Calibra turbo 2.0 16v engines into old Corsa's and Nova's so be aware!

Here's some pics of the new Corsa VXR - pretty far removed from the old days of a tin can and wheels IMO.

It's just the Astra's little pikey brother really.

A lot nicer than the Corsa's of old though, especially the crappy 8v 1.2 Corsa B I had during college. #-o
