[Mk2] [Turbo] Lack of ignition advance (well sluggish, no power till boost)

Post by Rikki »

Hello folks,

Had a niggling problem for a while, basically the car drives flat. No get up and go, it boosts ok and once its up past 4000rpm it goes well (though not as quick as before).

No dash lights, no stored codes using the paperclip trick etc.

Just wondering if anyones got any ideas. Since it feels like its running retarded ignition Im thinking a sensor could be on the way out or returning bad info. Maybe the knock sensor?

As I said no stored codes so not sure what to do and with sensors costing 100 quid plus VAT each Id rather not go down that route for no reason.

Any suggestions on this one?

Many thanks peeps :D

Here a quick list of things to check
Plugs
Leads
rotor arm and cap

Modifying a 1 liter is like giving my granny a E. It’s just wrong!!

if you've checked for error codes, pull the ECU A, ECU B and EFI fuses for 2 minutes then try driving it and see how it behaves

Thakns for the replies people.

It goes "better" after an ECU reset but its still a burst couch.

Im not sure how to check the ignition timing and it hasnt been altered since I had the car mapped.

Cheers!

If you have had the car mapped it must have a after market ECU??
So no point trying to reset the stock ECU!
Where was it mapped?

Its got a Unichip which means the stock ECU runs in conjunction with it, the chip running as an overlay/piggyback.

I see mate, maybe take it back to them and see what they think, they may check the timing for you FOC kinda blame it on them

LOL nah it aint their fault.

My main problem is "if the cars get me to work Im happy" so Ive never really bothered getting it looked at / fixed.

My own worst enemy!
