It all depends on whether the car you are converting, Paul has PAS. If it doesn't you can use the stock AW11 high up alternator mounting with the AC in the same position. That will make it a lot easier. You'll only need to look at the issues I have if you have AC and PAS.

Mark finally got the keys to his new premises. Once he's moved his stuff in, we will be doing the engine swap in here:

Will be nice not to be doing the engine swop on the driveway!

Looks wonderful Lauren :)

I could do with an indoor space like that

A 4-poster ramp in there would be good

We are thinking of getting a 4 post lift, if we can afford it. To be fair the rest of the workshop will fill up once Mark gets his workbenches and powertools and the like in there, tis a nice size though. :)

It's just nice to finally have somewhere where we can work on the car in the dry and with good facilities. When we do the GZE swop there will be a few bearding parties as we have a big kitchen/lounge area too. :)

Don't bother with 4 post lifts, they are useless for most jobs that you need to get under the car for, 2 post lifts are the only way really, i have two of them in our workshop, worth their weight in gold, i wouldn't have a 4 post lift for free.

My main experience is of an early type ramp with a single central ram about 300 mill dia & powered by compressed air

That wasn't ideal either but helluvan improvement on a pit

Not that I would decry access to either one by any means :)

Agree that two post lift is more useful, Paul. Used to like using a 4 post for doing geo setups and the like, but yes, two post with the arm thingies are more useful.

2 post lift works fine from what i've seen. the 2 is not a particularly heavy car.

Don't give in to health & safety monkeys in high vis jackets!

There'll be fine and my car is lighter than an MR2. As long as the safe working load is considerably more than what you're lifting it's fine. :+:

Tbh getting a lift will depend upon us finding some at a good price, otherwise we'll cope without.

Exactly, but you need to remember that Mark's previous premises were a grand a year less, so he knows about all that stuff. This isn't the start of a new business, it's just a move to a new premises. :+:

Mmm...sounds like where you are he could offer a service to premier league footballers to fit out their houses...starting at £100k a go :)
Anyway I sincerly hope his business prospers in 2012...most SME's need all the support they can get, especially regional ones.
When I think of all the money to be (mainly)wasted in London on the Olympics supporting the egos of politicians and sundry freeloaders it makes me angry...these funds could be used to help small businesses all over the country.

That's basically what he does, John, all the high end stuff.

I don't care much for the Olympics either.
