They've just made the mr2 a pointless entry.

Previous years were split up by drive train, this year by aspiration.

Knockhill is the only chance the mr2 has and it'll still be easily out paced by a 600bhp evo or scooby. Silverstone national is about 2% handling and 98% power and while donny is much more flowing, power makes a big difference there as it's all 3rd and 4th gear at near WOT.

Woo.

 I've sent my pre-entry form in, BUT.....

Having looked into this in more detail, there's no xxxxxx way my xxxxxx car is going to be anywhere other than plumb last...... even if Damon Hill was driving it.

And theres no way I would be interested in competing at Silverstone. It bores me to tears, I'd probably fall asleep at the wheel and have a big accident....

I was right all along ....

PS If they do a round at Cadwell or Angelsey (and there's spare places) I may reconsider

Mind you I wonder if T would lend me one of her cars to compete with..... :-k

Maybe it's time for our normally aspirated boys to step up then? The MR2 is not underpowered, and when lightened and sorted becomes quite a weapon. Not to mention BEAMS VVTi and V6 options...

That's a fair point, I've been blinkered by the FI i'm afraid. There's still lighter, better cars though. But the same engine in an MX5 and your curb weight will be much lower

But there are still better handling/better cars out there. How is the grouping done then, is it engine size? If so where do the different classes stop and start then?

Does it fall in the 2.0- 3.0 litre engine class for example? If so an an Na is it going to get its ass whipped by M3s and the like.

For the turbo class there are plenty of other quicker cars.

We agree again :)

The groups are as follows:

Club or Pro with the following sub groups:

NA
FI

So... it'll be evos, skylines and scoobys dominating IMO. There won't even be a dax rush to steal some points as there's no open wheels this year.

Lets all sell our MR2s then and buy Veyrons, Nobles et al... I mean, if you don't have the best car that it's possible to own, why even bother?

But what's the point in COMPETING if you don't stand a chance?

Blimey we agree again.

There is no point whatsoever going into competition if you are not competitive.

Except perhaps if you want to have fun in your MR2 and compare your times to other MR2s? I never thought I would win the TA series so am not bothered about that, for me it really was the taking part and practising in a competitive environment without going balls out on the MR2 Challenge.....

...and who knows putting in some interesting times in an MR2 with 415bhp at the hubs.

Then come to a trackday with me, Simon and the rest of the crew

I'd entered to win the class as there was a real chance at certain tracks but now i'll not be taking part.

Can't time on a track day though can you?

I guess it depends on how seriously you view these things, I've never assumed it was winnable, just that the car might surprise a few people and myself gets practice in a competitive environment.

I'll still enter I think, just to have an MR2 in the series if nothing else.

No, it's against the rules however certain TDOs that aren't BAT don't really mind as long as you're not being stupid and even without timing yourself it's still easy to judge how you're doing against other MR2s. Simply all go out at the same time, if the person infront is pulling away then you're slower, if you overtake then you're faster.

Also you can legally time at any trackday using a legally mounted camera then timing the laps when you get home.

Hi T

In essence Time Attack in Japan and worldwide runs this way.

We had arguments last year re this guy has a turbo or this guy has NOS and
so on, so we are going back to the roots to settle all arguments.

Regards
Rob

There you have it.

So instead it will be "this guy has AWD and this guy has NOS" :P

Ah well, I'll be there (not driving) if skinthespin is still entering, should be an entertaining few events... I love watching AWD cars at WOT :eye:
