matt_mr2t wrote:How good is the aircon/heater likely to be on a car of that age Lauren?

It was crap on my MR2, took ages for the heaters to work and the aircon stopped working a few months after buying it, being the old gas I couldnt seem to find any one who knew what they were doing to fix it. :-k

I'd be weary about spending loads of extra money on one with aircon only to find out it hardly works.

I'd think about buying in the hottest of summer so you can give it a proper test out. In the winter you'll have no concept of whether or not it's working. I'm sure you've already thought of that though. :thumleft:

Mark had good working aircon on his old SE. If I do import a car from Japan, I would expect it to be working as you can't really cope without it there. I don't need to buy in the hottest weather to tell if it works or not.

We'll see.

I always had amazingly good aircon in my SC before it came out...! Tend to be quite good in the old Toyotas (colder than the R134a if it hasn't leaked out actually!)

Levin means 'Lightning', Trueno, 'Thunder'.

Now that I never knew!!!

Go for it L & make sure you have it on a curry night so I can have a passenger ride in it! Lol. Definitely a car I'd like to experience at some point!

The Irish lads would claw your eyes out for calling that a Levin! Thats a UK coupe - small differences and a big difference in price.

Seriously though PS on the 86 is a massive fail, everyone goes for non ps, which is why non ps racks and coloumns go for bucks! I took a lads 86 out with PS and hated it, over servoed, wobbly, and didnt have the same feel or response a non PS rack had.

I know your a weedy girl and all but go for non PS and just think of it as free excercise! :D

That was kind of where I was going. R12 (which is what any '86 with its original aircon system will use) is illegal now. It's much better at cooling than R134a but you just can't get it. The likelyhood of a car of that age having any remaining original gas is tiny, aircon seals are not capable of holding pressure for that long. So it'll have to have been / be refilled with the crappy R12 replacement gas which is seriously poor at cooling. So to summise, your aircon will be crap

LOL! It's just a worry as to how heavy it is at parking speeds. I admit though I've only driven one with PS.

Actually that car is a Levin that's been converted to UK spec.

About the aircon. I guess for a price you could get it converted to R134a, It's just I reckon not many bother.

LOL! The interior colours can be shocking and you know how much I love blue interiors. ;)

Saw a red panda Trueno for sale, but that has a red/brown interior, what were they thinking?

And cheers. :+:

That one is pretty spot on for what I'm looking for. It does have a half cage (which would need to come out) and is missing some interior trim like rear and boot carpet. Also think the wheels are too wide, but I reckon I could flog them for good money and buy some slightly narrower Watanabes and put more sensible tyres on.

Still we'll see if they come back with a price. I think this one is going to be expensive.

Nice! Let's just hope they have filters for the throttle bodies else the internals will be rather mucky!!
