What I hate are the few people who insist on sitting in the middle or outside lane when doing around 50-60mph! There being undertaken by lorrys and still sit there dribbling along!

ive posted somewhere else on a forum about this kind of driving, Ive had my license less than 2 years and dont particularly want to loose it. so when a car appears up my ar$e the last thing im going to do is floor it.....especialy as most of the local area is 30 or 40 limits.

something i have noticed though is that recently its not so much chavs or young a-holes causing me problems on the road, but middle aged men and women who have no consideration for other drivers.

there is typicaly a very good reason why im traveling at a certain speed.....typicaly because there is a cyclist and parked cars ahead or as happened a couple of days ago a police car in the near distance coming round a bend toward me intimidatingly fast. i slowed from 30 to about 20 before i reached some cars parked ahead on the left to give him some room to get by ........only for the punto behind me to attempt an overtake and ending up nose to nose with the police car right next to my door. luckily both managed to stop and more importantly not hit me. but it wasnt a chav, boyracer or girlracer, but a 30 somthing year old mum with a kid in the back! i couldnt believe it. why would you put your child at risk like that??

and why do middle aged business men feel the need to race me at the lights.....im 6'2" have a bit of a beard and have hair down to my mid back.......seriously.....would you race a hippy!

Know what you mean..just posted a thread on Barry Boy Corsa's. You try and let them go past as you're enjoying the cruise with the sun and windows down (well on the odd day when we get lucky), but they just want to P*** you off!

Like one of the other responses here, I was quilty of planting my right foot as he wouldn't get the hint of passing me...it did bring a smile.

Note on Middle Lane Hoggers: As quoted by Jeremy Clarkson "I think those people who hog the middle lane should be machine gunned!"

Take my car out for a drive!!! its like a red rag to a field of bulls, every muppet wants to race you ](*,)

I enjoy my late night drives out, but one night i couldent take it, as it was at every set of lights, and i had to go on the motorway instead to get away from them.

people need to chill out

If someone's going slower than I want to I'll make a decision;

If I'm not that fussed about getting past I'll sit back, cruise and chill.

If I know there's a series of awesome bends up ahead I'm just itching to attack...then I'll make it clear I'd like to be allowed to pass;

Headlights on, close the gap a bit (not hanging off their bumper though - I'm paranoid about running into the back of someone after an accident in my first mk1!) and sit to the right so I'll fill their wing-mirror.

If they still don't get the hint that I want them to make it easy for me to overtake then I'll put the foglights on.

Last year I had the BEST 2 hours of driving of my life on the west coast of skye - trying to catch a group of MR2's I thought were ahead but I had actually passed in the first ten minutes! I'd come steaming up behind holiday traffic with headlights and foglights blazing - you'd be amazed how many people pulled over and let me past. Would always reward them for their kindness with a wave/thumbs up out the window.

Then I can get back to shredding my tyres on the awesome twists and turns of those Highland roads.

Similarly, if someone comes steaming up behind me on the road I'll do what I can to make it easy for them to maintain their progress. Motorbikes too - why hold them up when they look like they're having so much fun?!

I don't understand posts that talk about 'every muppet' wanting to race you...I just don't get this in Scotland.

Once in a blue moon you'll come across another car enthusiast with an interesting and capable car you'll share a fun road with...and get a wave and a headlight-flash from when you part ways...but no chavs wanting to race.

I guess all the chavs that can afford cars up here prefer to buy heroin?

:mrgreen: 20 seconds of that behind me and you would be doing 10mph ALL the way home, if its a drivers road like Snakes-Pass or the Cat n Fiddle then ill let them past if i dont intend on bombing down it, if its a normal road then your gunna get held up BIG TIME :mrgreen: i hate people doing that, if im doing 30 in a 30 then back off, if i am doing 20 in a 30 then ok i might deserve it.

And for all the people that are thinking, "i would just overtake you" =; how many everyday cars can out accelerate an RX7? (Clue - Not Many) if i was being tailgated i would accelerate to keep them behind me as punishment, if you hung back and went for the overtake then i would let you go.

I must admit, even in regular driving if encounter somebody driving at 25mph in a 30 without good reason, i'll be a fag paper from their bumper. If they slow down, i'll still be a fag paper from their bumper, though if they end up doing 10mph i'd be pretty likely to overtake if it's possible.

Most of the time though i end up a fag paper from everybody's back bumper everytime I encounter a bend anyway. I just get sick of people braking unecessarily (which just about everybody on the road seems to do).

There is no excuse to be that close to anyone while moving, regardless of how slow they are going. The little chavs are nobs for doing it to try and 'race' and you're worse as you should know better. You've already openly admitted it will intimidate people. Surely a moderator shouldn't be promoting bad driving practice, I mean you moan when people say they speed to 'race' other cars and yet you feel that this 'accident waiting to happen' type of behaviour is OK? =;

It must be something in the air as around where i am i don't get tail gated often in the MR2 although when i do i lt it go more often than not as i figure why waste the petrol its expensive enough why waste it on Corsa's and what not.
The shocking part is i borrowed my dads escort (OEM standard car!) for a week while i was looking for my 2 and the amount of Chavs who would try and race me just because i was in an escort was unbelivable!
To me the car just felt so slow and not even worth trying to race!
I agree with most people don't sit on peoples bumpers it's not needed.

The only thing that bothers me is theres a single lane carrageway thats a 60mph road drivers seem to enjoy dawdling doing 40mph.... is it me or would you not rather enjoy the acceleration up to 60 mph for once rather than doing 30 mph all the time?

I know it intimidates people thats why i do it. I'm not promoting anything i'm just saying what I do when i'm on the road, that does not mean that the other directors, the committee or the moderators do it too does it?

I don't do it to race anyone I do it because i have zero patience. I have never said that i am a considerate driver, because i'm most certainly not.

No excuse. Just sit back at a reasonable distance and overtake when it's safe. What's so difficult about that?

You'll do that to some nutter one day and they will slam the brakes on, get out of the car and smash your face in. People seem to be that crazy nowadays.

I never said it's the views of IMOC or anyone else, but surely as a responsible and long standing member of the team, you should have more sense not only than to actually drive like this, but to then condone this sort of driving and intimidation.

Maybe its no excuse, I guess what I get extremely frustrated about since i've learnt to drive at the speed limit is that you simply hardly ever need to brake for a corner. I get this every morning on the way to work, 60mph limit, I take this corner at 60mph in my diesel panda with its skinny tyres etc... half the time if i'm behind someone they'll take the same corner at 30mph. Now that annoys me, people who seem to have to brake for every corner. :-:

I'm not condoning that other people should do as i do in respect of driving, but it's just what I do. I do sit back at a reasonable distance if i'm just pootling at the speed limit, its when I come to corners that i always seem to end up shooting right up close behind people.

It just seems to be a fact of life now that most people can't drive properly and it is annoying as hell when people slow right down to take corners, when people sit at 40mph regardless of the speed limit etc etc I agree. sitting right up someones dirt box isn't going to help though. You're just raising the probability of an accident.

The part about you 'shooting up behind people' is a load of rubbish though, as a decent driver you should be keeping space and pace with traffic.

Well I could brake before the corner, but I generally don't want to so will only slow down when i have to which normally means in the middle of the corner where I meet the duffers.
