OK step one is over.
Claim fully reported, details given and an assessor will be round at some point this week to check the car over.
I have informed them that I am ideally looking for cash in lieu of repair so lets see what happens.

Thanks Ollie PM sent
Re: Just crashed my car - **repairs update**
Spoke to my underwriter again this morning.
The decision about the car being a total loss is purely in the hands of the engineer. The underwriters dont have a set value at which they would write the car off, each car is judged on its own merits.
So its all down to how helpful the engineer is when he looks at the car tomorrow

At least you are OK, good luck with the car!
Re: Just crashed my car - **repairs update**
Thanks Toni
Re: Just crashed my car - **repairs update**
Remember you almost certainly know more about MR2s than the engineer so have some prices of parts (new and 2nd hand) to hand and talk to him about how things come apart and it'll help no end.
My MK1 would have been written off if I hadn't spoken to the engineer while he was doing the assessment and that was for a damaged front wing, bumper scrape and dinked headlight cover.
Best of luck with it.

Thanks Limey, yeah I've made sure I can be there. I know theres no structural damage, its just superficial bits that can be sourced for around 5-600 at the outside. The rest is just the labour and paint.
Pretty sure that I could have it done for £1500 or so, excluding a replacement BBS LM.

If you can indicate on a parts diagram (which I can send you if required) what part numbers you need I can do you a broken down quote. Some front end panels are surprisingly cheap from Mr T! I did this with mine when I was speaking to the guy who assessed the car and he was happy to take my word for it. I also found out that when he was looking at comparative cars on import sites he was looking at rev2s which threw his valuation of the vehicle out a little.

Thanks Toxo that would be great.
If you could send over a parts diagram I'll mark up what I think I'll need.

Yes mate, deffo make sure youre there. Also haev a price in mind that you can have it fixed for at the absolute cheapest and push the point home that youre involved int eh community and haev contact who can do the work at reasonable prices. The assessor will be thinking about prices if the car was taken to Toyota!
Best of luck mate.

Thanks Bobby, keeping everything crossed at the moment(makes it hard to walk!)
Re: Just crashed my car - **repairs update**
Assessor left about an hour ago. Impressed on him I want to save the car, that I want to do the repairs and that if it went in to an approved bodyshop it'd be a total loss.
He seems happy to work on a cash in lieu settlement of between £1600-1800.
He said he would go off and do some research on the value of the car and come back to me this afternooon.
