so its going to have pretty much new everything apart from pistons crank con rods etc etc, but im looking forward to putting it back together and seeing what a differance its going to make! Im still in need of a crank pulley as mine snapped coming off. Was speaking to fensport last week asking if they have any n/a billet ones and they said there is a batch being sent off to be balanced so might get one of those. Also pondering a ebay short shifter and a boss so i can put my momo wheel on.

You'll have an engine that gives you confidence Alex :)

The cylinder bores & crank journals are OK then, no need for boring or grinding etc :?:

Get a Momo hub

Don't what ever you do get one from Paul Sims

Still havn't got my refund

yeah im glad im going to have a strong engine that hopefully (touch wood) wont break again. Next when i have money again i think is definitely going to be on suspension and handling. At least going to look at coilovers and poly bushes, maybe move to 15" wheels better brakes and maybe look at carbon items to save weight.

Box is fine, it dosnt slip out of gear nor crunch, there is slight movement in 5th when off and on the power but i read this as normal.
I think the bill so far is up to £700.

well the block and head got skimmed, honed, pressure tested, valves re-lapped with new oil seals. not 100% sure on the price as the invoice hasnt come thought bt £100 i reckon. and £100 is the fensport billet ally crank pulley when they are avalible for purchase/

I know that Mark (my Fiance) spent around £1500 on parts and machining for the rebuild on his 4AGZE. He did have it overbored and fitted oversized OEM pistons. Everything including all nuts and bolts(!) was Toyota parts. He also had the rotating assembly balanced.

Full rebuild here:

yes i was reading that Lauren, I dont want to go too extreme on this engine, i just want it working, and to not have to worry about a component failure as much as i would with an old no history engine. This is purely a get the car back on the road in good nick not really doing it for massive gains exercise, that is to come when im earning more money and i can spend silly money on silly parts like a blacktop engine etc etc. I was reading earlier about a 4agze engine running a skyline turbo, im quite intrieged by this!

Fair enough, understand, totally.

Guess I'm in a position where my engine is toast and erm this engine happens to be sitting in our shed. ;)

To be fair, when it was rebuilt five years ago, Mark said that it'd be for an AE86 and erm, guess what. It's the perfect engine for the car. :)

Can't wait to get cracking on it, but still a few weeks to go before I can start.

Yes peter i have been. Havent bought much in the way of anything but engine parts, im up to about £650 in parts and £200 from the machinists, not including the pulley from fensport when they are in stock. Should hopefully start building back up this week hopefully should be back up and ready for sat 18th for the trackday at oulton, ive givern my place to my mate so he is going on track in his car so im just aiming to drive there in the convoy with everybody else i know that is going, that is the target!

£200 for the machining doesn't seem bad at all Alex

Some more photo's! Apologies to non facebook members!

So the block and head have been skimmed, the head has been pressure tested, valves re-lapped with new oil seals.

List of parts so far.
Gasket kit, oil seals, piston rings, head bolts bearing journals and bearings, water pump, thermostat, cambelt and idler pulley, new crank pulley as mine snapped coming off, distributor arm and cap (has new leads by the look of it when i bought it) plugs, oil filter and of course fluids. I may have missed things off this list.

yes i think so providing the gasket i have is the same thickness as OEM. Should give a little Hp gain! Cant wait to drive it, going to be so awesome!
