as above, the drl idea works quite well, I've just recently picked up an mr2 and was starting to think about the drl option
how have you wired it in? needs some tips for how to do it when I give it a go

currnetly i have it taped into the fog light 12v feed.
so my side lights need to be on to even get these on.
i may wire it differently at a later date.
Re: Rev4 Turbo *mini photoshoot*
so they don't function as proper drl's yet then, I will have to do more digging to find an easy accessible ignition feed if I do go ahead with the plan
though side lights might be a good start

Re: Rev4 Turbo *mini photoshoot*
i wasnt after them acting like DRLs, they were really just a foglight replacement to fill the gap.
i didnt want them to always go on with the sidelights, they are super bright, so i thought next best thing make use of my redundant fog light switch.

fair enough, sounds like you've got them working how you want them then
Re: Rev4 Turbo *mini photoshoot*
enjoyable weekend on the car, spent the day giving it a good clean, hasnt seen one in a couple of months, and a 6am Sunday morning Kent Run blast with a few MR2s over on the OC.
....little mini shoot!

courtesy of Gaz who took this on the Sunday morning!
Re: Rev4 Turbo *mini photoshoot*
a nice photo shoot and then you get the car almost as dirty as mine

Need and want.
Re: Rev4 Turbo *mini photoshoot*
been a while, but getting down to doing a HG refresh, ARPs, removing WI and trying out running some Race Gas mix instead for this year.
before it came off for winter, i turned off WI, and car went like a bat out of hell.
i guess injecting water does suppress some ponies.
nice to confirm the "revised block" situation (extra meat by thermostat).
all bores looked decent.
cams had no cam markers, helpful! but only 1 cam pin to worry about.
ill be relapping the valves DIY style, should be interesting
started cleaning up piston tops

Re: Rev4 Turbo *mini photoshoot*
Nice work, Jim!
It's been far too long since we've seen some stuff like this. Nice luck with the block too!
WI definately reduces power if it isnt mapped for it, but keeps safety

its why ill likely try a little race gas instead, should have a similar effect, knock suppressant etc.
wont be as cheap, (potential +£20-25 per tank), but id like to try it out anyways.
i wont remove the WI until its had some good testing.
need to get a new flexy welded in too, berk didnt mate up well to the td06 downpipe. (i heard a berk issue, their dp and exhaust have different joint points to other exhausts and dps).
Re: Rev4 Turbo *mini photoshoot*
Jim, I've got a downpipe that was made up from scratch when the TD06 exhaust went on - I only had a rear section of exhaust so had a midpipe made up. cost me £180 quid (sortedd whilst at sbits) so fecking expensive.... pretty sure that will sort you out. ping me a message if you like, could be an easier alternative.
It never crossed my mind it wouldnt mate up OEM, but if it was custom made, it has to!

Re: Rev4 Turbo *mini photoshoot*
the td06 downpipe will mate up to anything other than a Berk i heard.
for whatever reason berks downpipe to mid pipe joint is a further 1inch down the system.
you never here of issues, because people usually get both their downpipe and exhaust.
what you dont here of is people trying to mate a berk exhaust to another make of downpipe, or in this case, a td06 downpipe.
theres no reason ats wouldnt mate their downpipes up to the stock system.
but berk seemed to only want to mate up there exhaust to their downpipe it seems.
theres like an inch in it. so ive been running a flange as a spacer. but the twist i needed on the flexy to join up ruined it. bit annoying.
id like a nice single, that would solve my problem, but i know ill end up wanting to put berk back on, ha. so may just get the berk midpipe mated with a longer flexy, thats the plan.

Re: Rev4 Turbo *mini photoshoot*
Gotcha - OK pal. Well if you're willing to pay postage to you (and back if no good) you're welcome to try it out for free, just in case..
Re: Rev4 Turbo *mini photoshoot*
Interesting as always Jim, never seen someone preemptively change their HG
I thought you were using a bit of meth (heh) in your WI mix

lol, car was pushing a bit of coolant out, never always fully returning to system, could never get to the bottom of it, so last resort was maybe some headlift, and/or pinhole leak in HG.
excuse to fit ARPs as well i picked up for a good price.
yeh am running 50/50, like i say, just trying something different, i wont completely ditch the system quite yet.
Re: Rev4 Turbo *mini photoshoot*
thought would be a good idea to update this again
springs and valves out for a DIY clean and relapping on the seats, new a Toyota full gasket kit to go along with ARP head studs and a new Toyota Gen3 MLS Headgasket.
all the valves out
exhausts valves condition, would certainly benefit a relap
started cleaning up and relapping
inlet valves came out looking like new
springs and tiny retaining clips
cleaned up the block and piston tops
after cleaning and relapping all
top end Genuine Toyota Gasket kit
new valve stem seals in
spring and valves back in
head cleaned and skimmed
cam gear back on with new cam seals
new HG and ARP head studs in
few bits back in place
new radiator in
all back together
ran into a few issues along the way, wouldnt start back up which was worrying, narrowed down to a poor ground on the ignitor (strange as not touched this area), anyways back up and running, new Titans 10w50, new coolant, new plugs.
running like a dream.
extras to finish off the engine bay.
relocated the expansion tank to the boot again after testing a few things.
refit, painted and cut down the firewall heatshields
cleaned up and repainted my valve cover now a crinkle Azure blue to match the body colour, (the old blue never quite matched).
happy to report now pulling back in all the expelled coolant into the system, looks like it did indeed have a tint leak at the HG either due to gasket or weak head stud(s).
Just in time for Japfest on the weekend!

hey all, so, there is a likely possibility the car will be for sale shortly.
aside from returning a few interior bits to near stock, car will remain as is.
i wont be disappearing from the forums, i just couldnt, as there is also the possibility of just returning the car to closer to standard and using it as a daily. or maybe getting an NA when the time comes.
potential house move and maybe new car on the way.
