Typo my bad, was talking about me doing it, basically if a cheap lsd can be sourced then I may as well source a longer 5th gear at the same time and fit them both, rather than one and not the other.

You'll need some gear pullers, a tool for pulling 5th gear, and a torque meter capable of reading from zero to a few Nm.

Also add to the cost a couple of diff side bearings at around £60 each.

What's the expected performance of this engine in the end?

A standard 1mzfe VVTI engine is around the 250-260bhp mark at 5800 rpm with 222 lb·ft (328 N·m) of torque at 4400 rpm. However this engine is having a port and polish, full clean up and a few little bits and bobs done to it so will be higher than this. This is a torquey engine so initial power should be good.

Don't forget that this is a fully lightweight aluminum engine though, which means that there will be a vast power to weight increase up to say a 3vzfe.

With the new gearbox with LSD and also modified custom clutch it should be brilliant :D

A member on here very kindly donated me a gear trim section so that I could glue together my new gear gaitor. This is with a view of it being ready to attach to the car when it comes back to me :thumleft:

So the appropriate necessary parts were collected together

I set about piecing it together

And glued it to the frame

All done:

All done and ready for fitting to the car...

There may be a few pictures from Peters hard work later \:D/

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Toyota_MZ_engine

The 1MZ-FE with VVT-i is used in the Avalon, Highlander, Sienna and Camry. Output is 210 hp (156 kW) at 5800 rpm with 222 lb·ft (328 N·m) of torque at 4400 rpm. Early versions of the VVT-i 1MZ used a dual throttle body, cast aluminum intake manifold, and EGR block off plates on the exhaust manifolds. Later versions used an ABS plastic intake manifold to further weight reduction and decrease cost. These versions may also have drive-by-wire/electronic throttle control.

Nope, it's 210bhp in standard trim:

Thanks Craig

Thanks for clarifying about bhp. Tbh Im not massively concerned about the bhp output; its a lightweight ali V6 engine being dropped in. One way or another its going to be heads and shoulders above my 3sfe in performance! Lol. It should be more usable power/weight than a 3vz.

Yes I want speed but a nice managable reliable engine is more important to me. The torque and weight figures look good as well so watch this space.

I will dyno it and weight it all at some stage...
Most importantly - its different from the norm.

Roll on EOR mark 2 :D

It should make an amazing performance difference

I've read on the internet (though I won't rely on it as I've already proved on here that its wrong from time to time! lol) that the weight of the 1MZ-VVTI is only 346lb

If that correct that's really rather lightweight for the kind of power its putting out!

I'm pleased that as standard my MR2 doesn't have the added weight of abs, traction control, power steering, air con, etc... so the weight savings of my lightweight model and my new engine will make a good power/weight combo :thumleft:

Peter has started to take the V6 out of the Lexus ready for a strip down and rebuild :D

More updates tomorrow (or rather later today, lol)

Kudos for reading the entire thread! Its rather mammoth now! lol.
Thank you very much for your comment; I think its coming along nicely...

The engine has come from a Lexus RX300/Toyota Harrier which will eventually be weighed in at the scrapper. Kind of sad end for it really considering its very low mileage but oh well!

The new gearbox is a low mileage MR2 rev5 na box which has been stripped down, inspected etc... and now has the 1ZZ LSD and extended 5th gear mod :thumleft:

The document I posted above confirms this. It's 1kg lighter than the non-vvti 1MZFE and 17kgs lighter than a 2GRFE.

Peter has been slaving away in the Lexus engine bay sorting out the wiring, etc...

In the mean time my clutch stage 2 pressure plate has been delivered to him from the USA :D

The car parts seem to be getting better and better

I think that the Mrs is gong to have problems getting me out of this car or out of the garage once its all finished! lol

Tiny update just to keep in touch with everyone as I feel that I have been neglecting IMOC recently due to some very difficult news at home to come to terms with...

Peter is still cracking on with the hard work :thumleft:

A very kind member on here who will be named shortly (no prizes for guessing who! lol) is also making me a custom heater control unit with nice bright LEDs everywhere and a dimming rocker switch :D

Finally I am also having some alcantara re-trimming done by the very kind Rhon. I'm still not 100% on which areas to re-trim yet, but currently I am thinking the areas in red (not my car btw - just for visual representation). The cubby box area between the seats will also be done although this isn't visible in the picture hence it isn't highlighted;

Image

I'm sure a design will be finalized shortly in regards to the interior. I don't want the entire dash done and having half half will make it look OEM and should tie together the seats and door cards into the theme a lot more. I can't wait!

By December the car will have make a huge leap forwards both inside and out \:D/
