I didn't expect to see many more club members at the AGM, it was just the usual suspects minus a few.

My personal thanks to the committee and those members who went above and beyond again this year, Jo, Garrick, Stuart, Vix, Phil (Phil has spent many, many hours on the new website, I'm looking forward to the testing period!) and of course Karl and Lou.

A special thanks to Jo for the event organising, without you the club wouldn't function.

I can understand Kev's comments, they are not aimed at anyone individually just at non-attending club members in general. Any suggestions of what can be done to improve the attendance for next year would be good.

I was quiet at this years meeting due to slight self inflited illness, and i didn't hang around as I had to get to Ikea in the afternoon.
If you can't see the angle, you're in trouble.

We went the first year because we wanted to see how the club was run and what sort of input we could give. I got elected treasurer so I felt I had to attend this year to give my report in person and answer any queries. It's a very long way for us but it is rewarding to meet other members and hear their views as well as air our own.

Thats a good question: maybe a simple questionaire circulated to all members would be a better medium for communicating the previous years status of the club and for club members to indicate any issues or desired future requests.

Personally I've no desire to travel 150+ miles to hear information that could easily be conveyed by far easier means. I take mild offence at the suggestion that non-attendee's are bone idle: I gladly pay a subscription to the club; yet chose the level of participation; as per the majority of subscribers.

Huw - its not just a case of conveying information (this can easily be done by post), its more a case of proposing and discussing new ideas and ways of taking the club forward. we need numbers to make fair discussions rather than the committee acting as a dictatorship. i would rather act based on a consensus rather than ploughing ahead with whatever i decide.

Yep - understand that Jo, however in all of our absense plough ahead - the club does a great job wiht the resources at its disposal, especially as its all performed via volunteers :thumleft: .

Regarding generating feedback, new idea, or addressing potential issues; I'm not saying don't attend the AGM - but maybe for those unlikely to attend a simple questionaire (paper hard copy inserted in the club mag behand) could give the commitee a simple way of engaging club members without theeir presense IYSWIM?

not a bad idea, but the last mag which advertised the agm asked any mambers to submit stuff for the agenda.
I guess we could pre-empt things by presubmitting what we would like to propose. up to stuart really how he organises it tho.

OK. Here's an idea.

There is a problem with getting the whole club to an AGM, For may it's a long way, and hey being in the club is suposed to be fun not a chore but we do need to try and get everyones views.

Now most areas have regular meetings. What if the meeting before the main AGM areas held local AGM's and discussed the points to be raised and the area co-ords collected views or suggestions and arranged for this info to get to the main AGM in person or via email. It doesn't stop anyone attending who wants to, but may help get more ideas/feedback in.

We can't judge the non attendance of others by the standards of the people who do turn up, I think Stuart said there were only two who weren't committe or area organisers there. Why are we suprised at this? It's the 'actively involved' that turn up. If the people there weren't the do'ers they wouldn't have wound up on the committee in the first place if you see what I mean? (The alternative is that we get 300 or so people 90% of whom have never turned up at so much as a pub meet all dictating the way the club is run. That doesn't seem any better to me.) Those moaning about low attendance have to ask themselves "Why do I want them to be there, when they clearly don't see a need to be there?"

If the committee decides it wants ideas / feedback then we need to go and get it. The AGM is possibly not the best place to source ideas for change. There are other ways.

Well i do normally turn up at club stuff like this, but due to other circumstances i simply couldnt make it which i was disapointed with, i also had 'Man cold' badly over the weekend & felt like poo anyway, so not wanting to spread it among the commitee & render them out of commision for a few weeks i stayed away , my own personal view on the comments made are that, you only get out of the club what you put into it, some members just want the club mag & thats it ! which is fine, some just want to turn up to a few meets & some are naturally more enthusistic & have ideas on how to improve the club as a whole for everyone, without these dedicated few the club would cease to exist & i think thats where the frustration comes from, but above all every member who pays a subsription IS contributing to the club anyway. Just my 2p worth, cheers, Jinxy

firstly i will say sorry to those who feel offended by my comments. i wrote them fully expecting that reaction. those who know me know this is not my way. i am please however that they got the intended result. that is to get people talking. i do understand that the club has a lot of different members, some of which dont want to get involved, thats fine but unless we can find out what people want then how can we go forward ? we need discusion and suggestions for the year ahead. is it that everyone wants to do exactly the same as this year ? and the next year ? and the .....
just a few word of input from a few more would be nice. everyone must have said at some time this year "i wish we could ... ". Well tell a few more about your ideas. this year thanks to a proper account :thumleft: we have a profit ,small but useable, what do we do with it ?
