Eh. It'll wash off. I know I've got better things to do today but I couldn't resist a little mock up of what I'm currently thinking:

lolol. I'm gonna pop out and see how low the coilovers will go. I think they're maxed already - at least in terms of maintaining roll centre, so I probably won't get anywhere near as low as my concept

edit - Actually looking back at it I haven't even drawn it that low so I think your right.

Do it!

What coilovers are they? Assuming you're willing to give up all drivability then HSD's will easily put the car on the ground, mine had about 20mm ground clearance from the chassis rails on 195/45 r15. Makes it impossible to drive anywhere, will rub on big cats eyes on motorway. I raised it 10mm and went up to a 50 profile tyre which was perfect

They look like Tein H1s :-k

I've got a weird problem (apart from the negative and judgmental reaction the car seems to get round here )

The car is apparently overheating - boooo. I changed the radiator, thermostat, hoses, flushed the system through, topped up with new coolant, but then I was thinking, it's a bit weird now I can feel the rad getting nice and warm that it still apparently overheats. So head gasket right? Hold your horses, doomsayers, because I unplugged both temp sensors, then all the other ones around the rear sensor as well, and the gauge still works and shows a reading. Give the number of stupid bodges I've already found and fixed, it wouldn't surprise me if the previous owner has done something weird with the sensor wiring. How can it actually have a reading without any input? It must be reading something somewhere. I messaged previous owner for some insight but I'll be surprised if I get anything back other than "dunno m8"

So, is it really overheating? I made it all the way from Stockport to Sheffield to shitty London fine. I am very confused.

The new thermostat seems to be working properly otherwise I was gonna gut it and just run the plate to regulate flow.

Griping about Mazda problems on a Toyota forum? Sorry

Possibly. I replaced the temp sender for the ECU (green one at the back) and let it idle until it was sitting half way steady. it managed this for a few minutes and then started to creep up again. I'm thinking head gasket definitely, but I know the stock gauge is xxxx so I'm gonna plumb in a separate one with a decent sender. I'll finish lafer ehen I can type up properly.

Okay so I'm trying to get it booked in this week for a head gasket change because I just don't have the time to do that myself right now and then it can have cam belt and pump done at the same time. Luckily there are a lot of MX5 specialists so hopefully one of them can fit me in. It looks like I've caught it fairly early so fingers crossed no head work.

If that can't get done within a couple of weeks then I'll scrap it and get another. I've got some cool parts for it anyway :)

Yesterday when trying to get the crappy 15x8 Rotas off the front a I sheared a wheel nut because the previous owner had used "lightweight" alloy nuts and over tightened them to about 5,000,000 Nm. I have a chap coming while I'm at work tomorrow as I didn't have anything to get them off. Not enough left to smash a socket on. Another £65 pi$$ed away.

It's a xxxxxx struggle but hopefully it's gonna be worth it. I dunno why I do this to myself.

I've swapped out the shitty smoked lights and changed the gaskets on the rear lights (no more wet boot :) ) and fixed wiring for the O2 sensor and side lights. More wiring to go.

I'm swapping the new bonnet on today and putting the vented one up for sell. Hopefully I'll fit the hardtop this week as well. I really hope i can get this one on the road as I'm stupid enough to think I could fix the problems quick on this one and have some fun before I get the 2 back. Oh well, now I have two cars out of action.

List of previous owner bodges and fuckups that I have fixed or will do shortly:

1. xxxx wheel nuts overtightened more than any I've ever seen
2. Almost all wires just cut and twisted together, sometimes a few inches from connectors which could have just been unplugged, and at best with only a shitty little bit of tape over the twist
3. Front wings wrecked by his attempt at "rolling" the arches
4. AFM/filter not mounted to anything and just sitting on the body
5. Hose clips loose on intake
6. Suspected K-seal or Radweld in the the coolant (now totally flushed)
7. Side lights bonded to the bumper with bird xxxx and PVA glue
8. Wrong heater controls fitted
9. Driver door gutted and window held up with a piece of wood (regulator now replaced)
10. Crappy aftermarket door cards stuck on with black mastic
11. Boot drilled badly for BGW - oval holes

I can't wait to just be back at work and too busy to think about how much of an idiot I am for thinking this would be a couple of odd jobs and on the road.

I don't know weather to laugh or cry.

Had a rusty mk1 that failed it's MOT. Got it for next to nothing from a mate and welded up the rot. Was fun but so many things needed doing to it due to age.

in the end I had all the parts needed to sort it after Mr blind Peugeot pulled out on me going round a roundabout and that was it. write off.
bought back the scrap but it was parked up so long the battery died and then it started to overheat!

the clocks changed last autumn and that was it, no daylight to work on it so had to get rid and find something more reliable.

it was super fun in the twisties and roundabouts but other than that it was a pain. getting done by even diesel taxis was no fun. oh and no brakes!!
managed to sell it for £400 which was double what it cost me. but prob spent £1600 in parts for it over the year of ownership.

get a decent one or get something else.

Well, at this point the shell is definitely better than any others I've seen, so I'd rather just hang on to this one and get another 1.6 long nose swapped in or just get the HG done. I've put a new rad in and tidied up a lot of bits so as long as it's driveable then we'll see how it goes. Fingers and toes crossed. There's still some life left in the Tein HRs and I have a new catback coming. Getting the HG done and/or sorting whatever electrical problem I have causing the ECU to overread (it's definitely doing this) will hopefully be a good investment. Parts are so cheap and plentiful for these, and I couldn't give a flying fmck if some swollen prostate in a Meriva can overtake me with ease - these cars are just cool :)

Sorry to hear about yours getting written off by a dunce :(

Glad to hear you're enjoying it JD :thumleft:

I've got a spare jdm 1.6 SNC engine with the crank wobble issue - if your head ends up to be FUBAR'd (warped or whatever) you can have my old one. The heads fine, just the crank issue #-o Can bring stuff to the Guildford run on Friday if that helps :) I've also got a set of aftermarket steel wheel nuts if you need them.

How much do you want for the bonnet? I kinda like it..

btw - after I had the SNC wobble issue I just swapped in a LNC over a weeked. IMO a lot easier than bothering to try to fix the engines, especially when a LNC with gearbox only set me back £150 and an hours journey  AND I found it has a relatively new ACT clutch kit #hiddenperks \:D/

Also, I'm selling my 15x8 banded steelies if that's your kind of thing

bought a hard top

cool

Look what I done found in the back of the air filter:

Yeah that's right:

Idiot.

I bought a dildo to cheer myself up:

Image

Fans out while I'm changing the rad:

Image

The slightly smaller one on the left in the picture is the aircon fan which I'm wiring up parallel as it's useless otherwise.

New rad in:

Image

I changed the thermostat, rad cap, and rad hoses. Yay.

This is the book to buy if you want to drop coolant for every single job ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Image

This is the book to buy if you like looking at hundreds of parts you can't get anymore:

Image

This was how I found the O2 sensor wire:

Two screws (red circles) are missing from the back of the cluster. The green circle shows the screw (I think?) you take out to delimit it from a top speed it will never reach in most people's ownership anyway:

Bird poop bonded side lights:

Crusty j*zz bonded side light bulb:

More spaff:

WHAT THE F**K IS THIS? ](*,) ](*,) ](*,)

New sidelights to replace the smoked ones:

Gonna get this blasted in a couple of weeks when I've got time to drop it round to a local wheel refurb place that will blast it for me. Cool.

My little helper:

I picked up and fitted a new bonnet and light covers:

Image

They still need a bit of adjustment (and other body panels to match 8-[ )

Which means this one for sell soon. Calum you can have it with the light covers for £50 collected :) I wouldn't recommend couriering it because ally will bend and crease easily :(

New tail lights fitted:
