Re: Mk2 on fire, M66
Makes me want to go and have a look inside my engine bay and check everything for tightness!

Manual fire extinguisher, you want a decent 2ltr one.

Are these the type Craig ?
Re: Mk2 on fire, M66
Yes, I think the minimum requirement is a 2litre handheld extinguisher. I'll be looking at getting one soon.
Kong, sorry to hear about the car but really good to know you got out of it unscathed. Don't think of it asd a car lost but a new project to start

This is mine I think:
Can't check as I don't have the car.
Re: Mk2 on fire, M66
I'm considering a plumbed in LifeLine Zero 360 system, either mechanical or electronic...expensive, but it runs 4 nozzles into the engine bay and two into the cockpit:

Correct. The small coke bottle sized extinguishers will barely put out a barbecue, let alone an engine bay fire.
Re: Mk2 on fire, M66
where would you place one of these in a 2??
behind a seat?
frunk or boot would be risky?
what about getting 2 of the BBQ ones?

Vertically, in the boot against the firewall.
Re: Mk2 on fire, M66
Why not mount it in the passenger footwell, against the central tunnel that runs down the car? Quicker to get your hands on in an emergency...

Not so good for your passenger's knees/legs if you have a crash.
Re: Mk2 on fire, M66
Fair point, maybe behind your seat then? Somewhere you can get hands on it the instant you spot flames!

If you don't mind losing the near only storage space, i'd think that the high centre console between the seats would be perfect. You'd have to cut through the top/bottom separation.
May fit, haven't got a 2 nearby atm so just a suggestion. Obviously it would have to be secured well.

Thanks Jay and everyone else for the kind words.
What can I say? The car was my baby and if I totalled up the many tens of thousands of pounds I spent on it over the last 9 years the numbers might impress even some of those brand snobs that believe the MR2 is just for people that can't afford a 'real' sports car
I've been trying to convince my wife to let me build another car up but to be honest it's not looking terribly likely
Either way I will get back to everyone that asked about parts soon as I know what is going on.
Thanks all

Don't sell the parts- stick them in a garage, or loft where she won't notice them, then slowly collect what you need to put a whole car together
Don't give up mate, if you need any help, parts etc just ask
