I don't neccessarily agree that bracing from underneath doesn't bend? Its still bent metal bar? I've been running a Motoria/XS Power manifold for some time, fitment is not ideal but it has been cherry red whilst mapping and seems ok. If only the turbo studs would stop coming loose!

well sorry to drag an older thread up but i finally pulled my finger out and put the car back on the road

i had the car live mapped by MB automotive, we just done a very good base map as we were running out of time after the alternator plug fell out twice during the session...still has loads more timing to pull out of it and its just running 10psi which is fine for my girlfriend at the moment

still running stock engine and clutch..

Paper gaskets

Post by toyokid »

I ran my rev 2 Celica up to 17psi on the standard paper gasket for 4 years
but had plenty of cooling mods,
4mm aluminium plate below chargecooler,
ram air feed into standard airbox,
and underside of chargecooler is lagged with aluminium sheet.

Was fine until I forged her 4 years ago.

well we just finished mapping it at 1.2 bar on the 3071..

still on stock engine/gearbox/clutch, just bolt ons

95 octane fuel and a 90% ethanol mix in the WI

inlet temps were recorded via a AEM sensor and even though we were really hammering the throttle we saw 32 degrees inlet temp maximum when on boost (ambient was around 22 degrees today maybe more)...this is with the XS power intercooler and as above alcohol injection, without WI we saw 60's pretty quickly

i have datalog to prove the above as some may simply not believe me on this and i dont blame them really lol

the only failure we had was we broke the bearing in the recently replaced alternator, ill be fitting another one tomorrow hopefully

so, now lets see how long this engine lasts....as mentioned before in this thread i build engines so if it does go bang its no big deal really although i would like it to survive until it comes off the road for winter

i had the car mapped on 95 ron with aquamist pump and aquamist red jet set to about 7psi with 80%-90% ethanol/h20

here is a snippet of the timing map for those that are interested.. and below that is another stock MR2 engine on Vpower with no WI

i recently got criticised on my lack of timing in a basemap by ryan.g..

so is this ok now for you ryan? hahaha

Timing map like that means nothing tho on a 3sgte as the static timing on the dizzy could be 5 degrees out at least. One would hope though a good mapper matched the static and ecu timing with a strobe light though :)

looks like it makes good power pretty much all over the rev range

still on the stock engine/headgasket/clutch etc and still running 95ron, its used every day too..

Good stuff! :thumleft:

What boost was that at?

Also, I thought it would be spooling a little earlier for the 3071?

1.2 bar mate

i thought the spool time was ok but i must admit i thought it would net more power allthough the torque is good (feels very quick o the tarmac)

i see it is which explains why you will struggle to get any more power. the rev2 cams and head do not breathe aswell as rev3.

All that spec for the power a good few of us have achieved using a MBC, Unichip and supporting breathing mods. If that was mine the engine would already be on the floor and stripped for forging.

The potential is there for a fast road car. :thumleft:

i didnt realise you could get that much torque from the stock rev2 setup?, the girlfriend is using the car everyday for work use but i might pull it down over winter and fit some forgies...then again i might just get it mapped at 1.8 bar and see how long it lasts but i wouldnt expect it to last very long at those power levels eh

but then all i have done is fit a big turbo and manifold with an ECU..i dont have a big spec list like most of the guys on here...its quite minimalistic

You could risk breaking the block with it throwing a rod out the side, then you'll have to source a new engine.

dont run stupid boost on an engine that isn't supported to take it.

have a look at chris's build and see what he's done to his. remember he made 635hp

Yup, those were the days lol. I used to be happy with my stockish Rev 3 with 320bhp....Where did it go wrong

Are you still thinking of selling?
