Fitting them is easy, mine just went in by hand, getting the old bush out was a little tougher. i Read about burning them out but i decided to use my 3 jaw puller and a nicely sized socket and i basically just pushed them out while holding the part in a vice... take it nice and steady and they just pop out eventually.
Test fitted my brake upgrade set up as well, i bought it about 4 years ago.. and suprise suprise it looks like i have the wrong calipers.. Doh!

Re: Mk1b restoration... its alive..and painted!!
i think so... tbh it was so long ago, at the time i was convinced they were off a Gt4, i think i may have even got them from the states...
they bolt straight on but no chance they fit over the discs i got, 277mm re drilled for the PCD.
here are the calipers
i have a sneaky feeling these are off a celice that had a smaller caliper (257mm iirc) they probably bolt up with the standard disc.

Re: Mk1b restoration... its alive..and painted!!
Hi guys, well it's been a while since I updated but in the ran time we have moved and managed to be 4 months pregnant so things have been a bit busy!
Anyway the car has a new home....
Loads of space so the car is jacked up and ready to be worked on....
Bit cold yesterday so this was defo a necessity
And about 2 hours later all this was stripped off the car ready for the same treatment as the passenger side.
Rear...
Front
I do find that little pile of rust that forms on the floor when you strip the suspension on the old girl very satisfying!
Anyone know a good and cheap shot blaster in the Stratford area?

Re: Mk1b restoration... its alive..and painted!!
Cheers but it's only tempory so planning to get as much done ASAP as I can..... Spent the morning looking for the dog who ran off chasing a deer... Only to find him back at home.... Little git
I then installed a bench for mt vice and started to strip the suspension, first thing that happened is my compressor started blowing fuses in the plug, I have no idea what wrong with it, then whilst trying to press out a bush this happened to my vice!
Unbelievable

I don't know if it'll be the same on the Mk1 but on Cassi's Mk2 I found that if you cut the excess rubber off the outside of the bush with a serrated knife, then using a 2 leg puller put some pressure on the bush and apply a bit of heat to the outside of the suspension arm the bush will slide out easily.

Mr Pete use to advise burning them out with a plumbers torch. Worked a treat for me on my last car. This time I had access to a 10 ton press so did it in a more controlled manner.

It does work well but is a bit stinky.

Re: Mk1b restoration... its alive..and painted!!
I used my vice and a 2 jaw pulled on all the bushes on the passenger and they all seemed to come out ok... Oh well not to worry.
Re: Mk1b restoration... its alive..and painted!!
That one needed a bit more pressure than the cast iron vice could take
(Also the cold weather may have a weakening effect)
Have seen one break before

Re: Mk1b restoration... its alive..and painted!!
well quick up date:
New vice bought and installed
Compressor capacitor ordered... fingers crossed that's the problem.
All bushes pressed out... came out nice and easy after a little heat to the outside.
Suspension stripped, grinder on the job to remove the spring seats ready for the coil over mod.
All parts including sub frame and engine mounts dropped off at the shot blaster
Engine fan stripped out... its now knackered!
General sanding and filling - only hours and hours more to do.
Hopefully picking up my machined block this week along with front and rear bumpers.
I had the head back from the machine shop ages ago, complete refurbishment, and hand ported so once i get the block in theory i can start to rebuild it.... might get all the dusty body work out of the way first though.

Re: Mk1b restoration... its alive..and painted!!
Been a good couple of days...
Compressor up and running!
And all this lot collected from various sources
Decked and over bored block...
All driver side suspension bits and pieces fully sand blasted
Euro sport rear spoiler
Style auto front and rear bumper
Clear cam cover
Por 15
Time to crack on I think!

Re: Mk1b restoration... its alive..and painted!!
Have got a lul in work at the moment so decided to sack off working from home and get on with the mr2
Got a couple of coats onto the block and fitted the the brand new core plugs.
Then I got carried away, welded the washer on to the suspension strut casing ready for the coil overs and the painted everything with a v liberal dose of por15... Not sure if you can make out the parts hanging... I managed to trap myself in and had to climb out underneath the back of the car!!!
Feels like progress though so that's the main thing.

Re: Mk1b restoration... its alive..and painted!!
Forgot to mention that due to shot blasting medium in my rear hub I have decided to change the bearing... And was pleased to find my local auto factor had the rear kit in stock for the grand total of 26 quid including the vat.
I thought that was a great price.
