Whenever I see a car with a body-kit (of any sort) attached I can't help thinking, no matter how well it is built, that if you took all that stuff off again the car would be faster and handle better cos it'd be lighter

Allows for wider wheels for traction, better stability and fiberglass is pretty light.

Had a wide arched xr2 and i think it made it lighter as metal panels were cut and parts removed. Some people like to be individual and the world would be a boring place if everybody was the same :( (Imagine a world where all the cars were the same :-s )

Gotta say, if I wanted to build something special that was MR2 based it'd have to be a replica of the Mk1 Group B car. That was an absolute animal! :D

Now that WOULD be a project to be proud of.

Podge over on TwoBrutal is planning the same kit for his Mk1V8inlineTT.

Should look and go outstandingly well.

fiberglass is lighter to an extent.. tbh with the shere size of the TRD arches, and how thick the fiberglass has to be to make them tough, i can see each arch pannel weighing quite alot more than the oem metal mr2 arches! ..

question tho... On the Genuine TRD's, do they use a wider x-member or hubs with a longer offset? or do they retain the std mr2 parts but use wheels with an offset of around +10 ??

An aluminium or carbon fibre, tuned V6 powered TRD-shaped MR2 would surely have been as credible a car as the Honda NSX, surely?

I'm not a fan of "kitted" cars per se. However, I can forgive the TRD a lot due to the connections with Toyota and the clearly "functional" nature of it, like an X-pack Capri or the look of the ur-Quattro.
