If you want quiet just stick with the stock airbox and get a rolled tip Mongoose, it's not much louder than stock until you hit 5k+. I drove mine round for a couple of days like this and was stuggling to hear the exhaust.

Most of the noise comes from induction - definintely the boomy noise in the cabin!

A two tailpipe system with one silenced and one active (silencer by pass) would be much simpler?

:thumleft:

That is essentially the current iteration of the design.

I've been looking into the internals of a silencer box, resonators and mufflers. Quite interesting how varying the proportion you used inside would change sound pitch. And emissions.

The active system needn't add much weight at all. Simple mechanical pieces can do the job, either electronically operated valves, or even more simply pressure operated valves.

That all said, the exhaust builders haven't seen this yet, so they may have quite a bit to say about it.

Hi mate I've got a custom box on mine, not sure how to post pictures yet but I'll figure it out in due course

I'm selling it now as I can't get enough of the Blitz Nurspec sound (one of which is currently on it's way, soon to be adapted for my N/A) ;)

If you're interested I'd be more than happy to sell it to you, just pm me or comment back :)

It's going to be a quad exit. I know a lot of people think they look pretty bad but I'm hoping it works out. We've got it worked out that the silencer bypass valve can be worked in later on - but they cost a whopping £450 each, for a valve that is operated by remote control. For pressure activated valves you're looking at four figure sums.

'exhaust dumpers' as theyre known in the USA, are a lot cheaper than that if I remember rightly. 2 min googling brings up - http://www.dmhperformance.com/ecutout.htm for instance.

Sure I've seen manually operated ones (boden cable?) for even less.

Fancy that.

The fella that's doing my exhaust had just built a set into his Audi S4. It sounded absolutely ferocious. I don't know if they were Rolex-spec valves or if he was just trying to deter me

I am getting progressively more nervous! I am certain it's going to take some getting used to either way. It will probably also really need some bodykit to get away with it... Oh well. I'll hang onto the stock back box for resale value definitely.
