i think by now i only had about 3 days to work on the car so the photos are rare from now on
charge cooler is now in
note the trd braces from Mattymr2. cheers!
as we had no idea what the stock boost would be or the mixture so i fitted these along with a switch for the cc pump. also fitted my manual boost controler where the cig lighter was
this is how it looked all piped plumbed and ready to go
little vid of its first start up (only half finished) and then its first full blast (finished)
on a private road.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FuGIGBGNe6o
so all running and at the first race meeting ready to go
all stickered up for the first run
this was my fastest run of the day my first event in the car and beat my personal best and won the class by a 5+ seconds
and with stock ride settings
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RSDJ0VOoBz0
so having a bit of time between races i bought these to see how well the charge cooler was working
they work very well.

Damn, thatn side exit exhaust is bloody loud!!
Re: Mr2 Turbo Sprint Car (Banshee)
so things going well and still fitting the odd bits changing settings etc..
i fitted a pair of front arm spacers before the first event.
they fitted nicely to the ball joint but what i failed to notice is every bit of sidways load was taken up on the bolts as there was no dome to fit where the ball joint did.
this is what happened
excuse the bad language
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AUqFhb_2Slw
im supprised it lasted 3 events.
decided to splash out on a gopro hero for my favorite event
no sooner had i fixed the ball joint problem things got worse!
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JJprKFXh-ho
so i rebuilt the engine the next weekend in between events
i had problems with the valve stem seals on the exhaust side and thought that was prob the cause as it was running so close to the limit the oil was enought to just caused bad detonation.
unfortunatly it was 3 broken ring lands and a catch tank full of oil later that i discovered the nut had come off the shaft in the waste gate and was allowing lots of boost creep.
lucky we had 8 spare rev 3 pistons
well managed to sort it eventualy (6 pistons later) and with the stem seals done and waste gate working the rest of the season was a breeze
this is my quickest run i filmed at st.eval
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9PhQ043jJH8
i finished the season with my quickest run 0.18 seconds off the all time class record set by a 400+bhp scoob (and i missed a gear )
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uV86AX_WzB0
had a go at an autosolo as well and must say it was epic fun
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hTmAb7gR1Gs
few more pics from the season
well that was the end of 2011 season and my first full season.
the hillclimb side of things didn't go as well as the sprints due to various problems.
but the sprints went better than i could have wished
i won every event in this car getting the overall class win and finishing 2nd in the cornish sprint championship and 7th in the overall championship.
Also setting 2 class records and getting the 2nd fastest time of the day at portreath sprint across all classes
heres one for the jap cars
heres one for me

Lauren should be reading this. this is what she thinks of a MR2 doing sprints
"Biggest problem with the MR2 is that it is rarely competitive against other cars in it's class. "
Well she is a woman so we will have to forgive her for not knowing how well they can do.
Oh and look at my time with a stock Rev 2 engine so 75HP down on Steve, I must just be a better driver

i have but it fits in a little later in the thread
that first run vid has the full system on when its on the road so when its crusing around that long bend thats pretty much its noise.
untill i floor it and the screamer opens up
its only the start up bit thats a straight pipe
ill do a little outside the car one tomorrow at the hillclimb.

118.13 was your best on that day and I was faster on the first run. I would have been up with you if I had not gone onto the grass to miss that rabbit

Re: Mr2 Turbo Sprint Car (Banshee)
Moving on to the modifications for 2012
we had a few discussions in 2011 with the marshals about our saftey equipment or lack of it!
although we were well within the rules (for a road car) they were a little conerned that we were doing very close (somtimes beating) times/speeds of the full blown race cars and single seaters yet having no roll protection and standard seat belts.
so we got a couple of cages
The biggest problem we were going to have fitting them was to stay in roadgoing we had to keep the interior as stock as possible.
lots of cutting and hacking coming up!
Cage and interior all in now for my seat
we went to the auto sports show and made the mistake of trying out some cobra seats
i got the suzuka pro gt
having the roll cage now above my head room was limited so had to drop the seat as low as possible
extra low holes
shaved the mount a little
a little cutting
plates welded in and painted
then the harnesses go in
all done

No, the cone was when I spun Matts car and it came back with me to the pits

Now fitting that cage was easy in Steves car, you should try it in a T bar, took a full 6 weekend, thats 12 days. It must have been in and out 12 times

Re: Mr2 Turbo Sprint Car (Banshee)
Next task for 2012 was to drop the engine out
once it was out i decided i wanted a colour change
so stealth matte black was the obvious choice
thought id stick a set of rev3 lights on while i was at it
so car painted time to crack on with the engine.
The first thing was a set of wossner 8:1 86mm pistons
then cams and pullys
valve springs and retainers
so set to work on the pistons
once again removing sharp edges and flatting off the shine
all done
with the engine out (again) i started the stripping down!
couple hours later
well after i took the crank out we saw further damage from poping the engine the year before
this is where the piston melted and had to scrape the aluminium off
as this block was now scrap i had to use one of the others we had.
just making sure its an 86mm bore
another rev2 so the usual was done to fit a rev3 sump and baffel
so that done i took it for a dip and hone
ready for paint
ok some of you may think why white?
well ive found white to be so much easier to work with/on even tho it gets dirty easy.
once i got the outside well cleaned and painted i gave the bores a very very good scrub
then blasted out every oil and water way with steam to wash out the acid.
this was great fun
took the crank, rods, clutch, pistons, dampener off for balancing
so while they were away i got on with the cams
took the cams out and the buckets.
as these cams are quite agressive i couldnt use rev2 buckets and shims as the cams will flip the shims out.
so got one of the rev3 heads and took the buckets and shims off it
got my hands on all the rev3 shims i could find measured them then wrote the size on them.
got the springs out
got them all in with the valves and fitted the buckets
then when i was putting the cams in i realised i had used rev2 valves
the rev3 valves are shorter between collet and tip
so out they came
i cleaned up and re-cut the rev 3 valves
valves went in and all fitted lovely
head done!

Very impressive. You and Bob do like your builds don't you. Although I do like to read them
