I have a large (19") bike and just put it on the passenger seat. Also do the same in my MX5.

No damage to paint or risk to bike.

There is no way in hell his bike would ever fit inside the MR2. It's very long and has pretty much no 'quick release' bits :)

Fair enough, although its only the seat post and wheels that need to come off....

do I have to make holes?

As far as I can recall they pick up on existing holes on the chassis. Don't remember having to drill anything to fit it.

I was looking at a U channel ( or a standard halfords channel for bikes and mount it using the two toe hooks on tyhe rear.

If you fabricate the correct bracket for the eyes, then all you have to do i mount the Halfords channel onto it and bike sits along the back.

Just a thought.

Previously in my MK1 , I opened the boot, took front wheel off, and dropped bike in, leaving boot open LOL.

did 2 years triathlon seasons with it like that. :D

The bike in question cannot have QR as it has 20mm bolt through on the front and 19mm on the rear IIRC. Either way, it's the length of the bike including the fork thats the issue. I can promise you that particular model of bike has almost zero chance of fitting ;)

And Montagues are built like sh*t.

If anybody is near MK and wants to try out the Saris Bones on their MR2, I've got one in my shed that they're welcome to fit to their car.

That sounds like a good idea for carring just the one bike. Personally, I've got a tow bar, but that sounds a lot neater, and much much lighter too!

I'd be interested to see some pics if you get anywhere with it.

I've been using a £30 halfords low mount rack as I couldn't find a Saris Bones 3 for a reasonable price.

While it's not the correct way to mount it, it actually works really well. Good thing the spoiler is easy to remove.
