Looks like a practical solution

That's great, but when it's your only car you don't have many alternatives.

Theres one very simple alternative

Leave yer bikes at home

Peter

only guessing, but your not a keen cyclist are you?

I have 3 bikes Kevin

Wouldn't transport them on my MR2 though

I do realise that there are members who'se only car is their MR

However, why not get on the bike at home & ride from there

Because maybe people want to cycle somewhere else, go cycling with friends who live miles away etc etc etc

I prefer to cycle off the roads because I'd like to die an old man rather than a cycling road kill
so slinging my bike into the car is the preferred option, but as its a free(ish) world the choice is yours
within this thread 2 people have quoted 3 bikes and an MR2. I'm wondering who rides the 3rd bike?

 My MR2 was rather handy when I was moving 50 miles away. (Yes the MR2 was & is my only car) Yes, I had three bikes, though one was rubbish so just gave it away. :)

And yep, cycling elsewhere is more fun than around here - I cycle around here every day (though pretty much always on the road!).

i agree i have will need to get my bmx to skate parks as i dont really fancy riding it to one as they are all miles away.

you have all given me alot of different ideas and at least now i have seen that alot of people do actualy travel in there mr2 with there bike and they have all been big bikes so mine should be no problem at all.

thanks everyone

If someone wants to cycle in other areas rather than near home and they have a suitable vehicle to transport their cycle(s) then fine, no problem

I don't think the Mk1 is suitable for that. Its my choice

If others disagree thats up to them

I can see that it has been done with varying degrees of adequacy

My "limited perspective" takes in, amongst other things safety (of everyone concerned) and freedom from criticism by others ( eg the boys & girls in blue )

Its my personal opinion that if someone wishes to do something they should equip themselves properly for it or otherwise refrain

It's my personal opinion that if someone doesn't have anything productive to say, they shouldn't say anything at all. As shocking as it may be, yours isn't the only opinion that matters, and looking down your nose at people and constantly stating your thoughts like it's gospel gets a bit grating for the rest of us mere mortals.
This thread is about searching for a solution for a problem, if you've no interest in the subject matter, or productive points to put forward, I suggest you refrain from opening similar threads in future. Perhaps you could use the extra free time to practice your sub-standard parking skills?

To OP - cheers for starting this thread, I've been thinking about a similar problem (but with a road bike) for a while, the useful responses to this thread have been very helpful.
Here's a similar thread, might find some inspiration here too. Post up some pics when you work out a method! :)

I thought this was just going to be a silly simple post to ask if people knew of any bike racks that fit on the mr2 i didnt think it would start this much drama.

I dont think it matters what car you have sometimes you always need more space i had a crx before my mr2 and i could have 2 people and 2 bikes in the car easy, but sometimes i used to have 3 or 4 of us with bikes and i couldnt fit that in the car so i had a bike rack.....simple. so why is the mr2 any different?

Also i went to awesome fest at the weekend where i wanted my mr2 there but i would have also been nice to take the bike so hence i need a way to use my mr2 and take the bike with me.

Once i have sorted something out i will put pictures up for anyone that wants to look.

Thanks everyone for all the usefull comments and advice.

It's the most ridiculous!

Tow bar is much better, I’ve also perfected the art of taking out the passenger seat and flat packing the bike into the car, that solves every issue but you’re not allowed to take a friend. When I replace my exhaust I'm going to get the tow bar re-done so that it's detachable

It looks a bit strange with te bike upside down like that but it doesn't obstruct the rear lights / reg plate and it probably doesn't obstruct rear vision too much
