The steering wheel boss I had from Paul Sims proved to be completely unsuitable

The horn ring and indicator cancel holes were wrong size & position

Not only that but the splined hub seemed to be made of inferior metal, which cracked at the bottom end. I didn't overtighten it

After exchange of two or three emails he asked me to send it back & he would see if he had something more suitable

Sent it on 23rd August together with a diagram outlining what is needed for the horn, etc to work properly

Since then have emailed him four times, asking what is happening

Latest one was yesterday

Have received no reply to any of the four emails

Thought I'd share this experience with you all

Ive been thinking of the Momo boss, .either a driftworks dished wheel or a keays racing wheel ( i love the branding in white over the top of the wheel) with the driftworks quick release so i can take the steering wheel with me when i go somewhere. I know its not thatcham approved security measure, but who is going to try and steal a car with no steering wheel..

To be fair, who is going to steal a MK1?

Honestly.

Well it is a fortunate thing that it is very rare for MK1's to get stolen. Corsa's and Saxo's are prime targets for obvious reasons.

no i think i figured it out! Ripspeed items are getting rare nowadays and fibreglass prices are though the roof, not to mention cheap poor quality home brew audio installs. Forget stealing bmw's and ferrari's saxo's and corsa's is where its at.

Easy to nick and sell the parts and has four seats.

Just be thankful MK1s are not a popular choice for the TWOC'er.

Yeh..take the advice and stick with the tried and tested Momo boss.... :thumleft:

I've done a lot of "playing" with various bosses over the years, including making Clarky's "home-brew"......

Well, I HAD to make a custom one to attach a VX220 wheel to, didn't I...?!

Having bought 2 different types of the "compatible" Ebay items previously, and having had horn and indicator-cancelling problems with both, I decided to fabricate the custom one using the splined bit cut from and actual OEM Mk1 steering wheel.........well that MUST work, mustn't it...

The other 2 were basically rubbish, displaying the aforementioned problems: dont waste your time with cheapo's, get the real deal.... 8)

Yes will defo get a Momo boss now

That cheapo thing wasn't really safe I think

The centre seemed to be made of a base metal which cracked at the bottom end when I fitted the hub to the column

Am using a 1a wheel at the mo whch has been modified to a smaller size and D-shape

It's not bad but the coverings are a bit rough
