Fair enough. I think it is better without but least you got your money back.

I myself have spent silly money before so we all do it.

Yeah, I tend to agree.
Its not going to stay in the wallet long though,
collecting the car from "Accelerated" later from the new full braking
setup being fitted.

So the plot thickened even further .... FFS lol #-o
Had a call from Danny at "Accelerated" with some bad news.
Turns out the front pads are destroyed and the rears in a pretty bad way
as well ! After explaining the original bed in procedure to Danny and how
this could have happened we came to conclusion that the callipers binding
and the coating not yet been fully removed the pads had bonded to the face
of the disc and then as I've driven off its ripped the chunks out of the pads.
As you can see below.

So as you can imagine, I'm thinking I'm £265 out of pocket and need a new
set of pads. But I'm not willing to let this beat me and typed out a few emails.
First to MTEC. To be honest their customer service is top notch and with a little
bit of explaining the situation they have agreed to refund me the full £265 to
order another full set of pads !!! :D

I know .......

Anyway because these pads are from the USA I'm thinking great, another 2
weeks before I get the car back. But as it happens Paul @ TCB had another
set on order as he has decided to stock these due to the popularity.
So as we speak they are being sent to Danny and I should hopefully have the car back
this weekend. WINNER WINNER CHICKEN DINNER !

Good result. Out of interest did you not use new calipers (refurbs) ?

Not at first mate, it wasn't until I fitted the new discs & pads
That I found out the callipers were binding and by that time
The damage was clearly done. But now it's having the new callipers
All round fitted along with the pads etc

So not chronologically listed but I forget to post. Shortly after fitting
the Corbeau seats, I had another stab at making the custom gear gaiter
with one that I had ordered from "Murica" to match the yellow stitching on the seats and OMP wheel.
Image
The first one I built, I cut and glued to short to the O/E surround and when driving
5th gear would pop the plastic surround out of place due to the
Extension. So with the GF's help we measured out another inch of slack
and began glueing in place with Locktite & utilising little clips to hold in
Place ( worked perfectly )
Image
NOT MY NAILS lol
Image
Then cut of the excess fabric to allow a flush fit and fitted.

Always seems to be the way with this car, Something s**t happens, and out
of it comes a pretty good situation :D
The day arrived that "Accelerated Motor Repairs" called to say that the
car was ready to collect, I received a call from Danny, with some
unsettling news... "Theres been an accident" , Turns out Danny ( one of the
co-owner's ) took the car out to test the brake setup after doing the bed in
procedure and forgot to latch down the aero catches on my Carbon fibre
border bonnet ! , it flew up and cracked the bonnet and marked the windscreen
surround !

As you can imagine I wasn't to impressed, Danny said to me that I wouldnt
have to pay for the work carried out fitting all the new brake components,
And that they would pay for a new bonnet and also the cost of DPM autobody
fitting and painting just as mine was.

So I got to the forums on FB, and on here to check if any people had a mint one for sale
or options of a brand new one from suppliers, EPR racing seemed to be the only one,
but it had a 5 week lead time and was going to cost £730
+ £500 for importing aside from the invoice it would take DPM to get it painted
etc, But the forum came up trumps and advised about a guy named Andrew
England who owns Composite Styling the main supplier for companies
like Carbenfibre Creations & MR2ben.

I gave him a call and managed to work out what I consider quite a silver lining,
Turns out the a bonnet from him was only £270 , I had told Danny that mine
cost £500 second hand so had a bit of money to play with :D
Carbon scuttle panel and rear reverse light panel also ordered, but asked
for the invoice to be made out at £500 only listing the bonnet.

Image

Collected the panels from Andrew and delivered to DPM,
where they started to get to work.

Scuttle Panel and Reverse panel were great and only needed a little
shaving to fit and Lacqured up beautifully as you can see. But the bonnet
appeared to have a lot of Air bubbles trapped under the gel coat in the
unfortunate position of being in the vent section which I leave unpainted
to show off the carbon. Sanding it back wouldn't remove. Also as you can see
from the last image he had made a black line joining the carbon in the
vent section on both sides which really bugged me !

Image
Image

Called Andrew and explained and he immediately said he would build another,
This time getting rid of the join line and make sure there was no issues.
Collected bonnet no.2 last night and delivered to DPM. Final results to come
through soon and cannot wait. The fitment is actually much better then my
original bonnet and I have gained two extra carbon panels out of all the
hassle, along with not having to pay a £600 approx bill from the garage
for all the brake work carried out. WINNER WINNER CHICKEN DINNER :thumright:

At the same time of having the bodywork repaired I had noticed that a
guy named Walton Smith was selling the exact standalone ECU that I was
planning to buy in the new year, a LINK G4 Storm. Albeit second hand
it was up for £600. Half, if not less then half the price of the ECU brand new !

I did a little bit of FB stalking to check he wasn't someone I'd suspect of
trying to scam and noticed his feed was full of him drifting a RB26 powered
rear drive converted WRX scooby with a monster wide arch kit. Turns out
Walton is one of the top drifters in the country and the Subaru is his sponsors
car ( Jap Performance Parts ) So I gave him a call, and he mentioned that
he could fit and map himself as he runs a company named NISPRO
Performance LTD. Again I did research on the company and could only find
good feedback online. He mentioned he would do a deal for 1k to supply,
fit and map which is less then the cost i would have paid for the unit itself.

The reason he was selling is that he's upgrading the ECU to a Linkg Fury
for his full ...... Drift spec REV 1 MR2 turbo !!
Image
So took a Monday off and made the 2 hour trek up to Nispro , dropped the
MR2 off and left with him, A week later and it was ready. 1 bus , 2 trains and
a tube journey later I was back up there.

Walton had fitted the ECU and dyno mapped it already, however wanted to
go out on the road to make sure everything was working and the map was
smooth, I waited whilst he connected the laptop into the plug points of the
ECU and put his DET cans on, connected to a bar on the block and off we went.
He mentioned that there would be a couple of times at first that the car would
hit boost cut. Exactly as he said, it did, but he worked magic on the laptop
and soon it was boosting hard all the way through.

Headed down the M40 and he would ask me to go a variation of throttle
positions for different levels of boost, Walton had wired the ECU so that
anything up to 3/4 throttle was running actuator pressure and the last 1/4
throttle would give full boost of around 1.2bar, he explained this was in his
opinion the best way of doing and I tend to agree !

After a series of motorway pulls in a variety of gears we pulled onto a slip road
and he asked me to do a launch control, My mr2 doesn't have ABS so Walton
could only wire in the "One Stage" opposed to the "Two Stage" that takes
readings from the hubs, however this is easily just as cool. Its running
off ignition cut and makes some wicked sounds just before you launch at 4k.

Got back and received the print out, He also mentioned that the intake temps
were impressively low. Here she is 318bhp flywheel which I thinks a good
figure.
Image

What do you guys think of the readout ? A lot of people have commented on
the dip in the Torque, however there was always a small flat spot in that area
beforehand and Walton thinks its possibly due to the efficiency of the
waste gate in the stock ECU. The cars pulls hard and I don't notice any flat
spots at all.

Ive heard good things about walton smith.
He was also on an episode on wheeler dealers when they did the nissan skyline i think. He setup their wheel alignment for drifting and took mike out for a drift.

Awesome!!!! Nice work.

The 2 dips look to coincide with 2 drops on the AFR side of things.... surely it just needs a bit more fettling to level that out?
