Need some tyres...opinions wanted

Post by JeffD »

I'm after:

2 x 215/40R17
2 x 245/40R17

Ive had a quick look on Camskill and I can get either a set of "TOYO T1R PROXES TOYO T1 R" in above sizes for £322.58 delievred (see below)

http://www.camskill.co.uk/products.php? ... b103s103p0

http://www.camskill.co.uk/products.php?plid=m4b103s18p0

or Goodyear Eagle F1 (I think) for £353.00

http://www.camskill.co.uk/products.php? ... b405s103p0

http://www.camskill.co.uk/products.php? ... 05s18p9512

These seem slightly different and more expensive?

http://www.camskill.co.uk/products.php? ... 2s18p13093

Are these good prices or does someonr know anywhere cheaper? ALso, do we get a discount with camskill?

Jeff, ISTR that Evo did a tyre test a year ago and the Goodyear GSD3 came out on top.

T1-Rs are OK, but won't be as grippy as the GSD3's in the wet.

Does anyone know the difference between?

Can I just confirm wet weather grip is really important to me - were the GSD3's best in wet weather or an akk round winner?

Asymmetrics are a new tyre. I would go for those tbh, give them a try and see what you think.

GSD3s are a good road tyre. Useless on track though. They do give good wet weather grip.

Jeff, I've actually got 215 x 40 F1's on the front and 235 x 40 asymmetrics on the rear of my car. Certainly a vast improvement over the Toyos that were on there before.

Ok it looks like folks are leaning towards the goodyears and asymetrics in prefernce to the GD3s - only thing is I cant get the fronts in that size for the asymetriocs (from camskill anyway) - anyone trecommend any other places or is that the best deal I'm going to get?

If it helps Wet weather performance is very, very important to me and the car will never be going near a track.

Jeff, I get on great with my GSD3's, on my 3rd set now. I've never come unstuck in the wet and I don't drive slow.

I 'heard' the asymmetric model is not as good as the GSD3's, infact T1-Rs are better than the asymmetrics. I've not tried them though, but this was from Tony at WIM.

Slarty, have you tried GSD3's on the rear before? If so, how do they compare to the asymmetrics? If not, how do you find the assy's?

so thats dearer than camskill :-(

just to recap camskill were:

GOODYEAR TYRES / CAR / GOODYEAR F1 GSD3 EAGLE GOODYEAR F 1 GSD 3 -
215/40R17 83W TL
£72.90 x 2 Total £145.80

Sadly I wasn't able to get the symmetrical GSD3's in my size for the rear so had to go with the asymmetrics. I find them really good. Plenty of grip in the dry and in the wet. Haven't had any hairy moments with them even in the recent bad weather/greasy roads we've had.

Good Year seem to be the best but Toyo are also very good for the money. Falken are also decent.

Falken FK452's are OK but IMO not as good a T1-Rs with GSD3's at the top of the pile.

I used FK451's as track tyres ( they did well, lasting 3 harsh airfield days ) but I'd beware of much else in the Falken range.

A set of Lotus spec Yoko Advan Nevoa's for the Roadster costs £440  but they're an astonishingly good tyre in the wet and dry.

I reckon I'm going to go with the Goodyear F1 GSD3s as at £343 for a set from camskill that seems like quite a good deal.

Do we get free delivery/discount from them? Might try a cheeky "credit crunch/give uis a bit off email" and see what happens! LOL ;-')

Toyo's are shocking. So glad mine are almost ready for changing!
I am going to be tyring the Hankook RS2 (think thats right). Have read nothing but good things on those. They are on Camskill as a track tyre.
Apexi Induction, Gutted Cat, Departure Exhaust, Magnecor Leads, St205 cc, Blitz ebc.
Carbotech pads.
