[Mk2] [Turbo] Horn Problems

Post by Mr Wabbit »

Hi, both of my horns have stopped working. I have checked the connections from the steering wheel and everything appears to be fine. I have removed the top of the horn relay and I can see its working correctly when you press the button (hear it tick and see the bit hit the copper wire). Does anyone have any idea's what could cause it? I carnt believe both of the horns have failed at the same time... or are the in sequence and when the first one fails the 2nd one stops working? Any advice would be great :thumleft:

Thanks,

Lee

The horns are both connected together. If it's a wiring fault then they'll both stop working. The horns on mine are attached with bullet type connectors, I would pull these off and make sure you're getting 12v on one (when pressing the horn) and have a route to ground on the other. Do your hazards work? Have you had the front bumper off recently?

You'll need to fix it before your next MOT as well ;)

I had the very same problem - horn working intermitantly though.

Checked all the wiring to the horns - OK
Could hear the Relay clicking, took relay cover off could see the bit moving and making contact but still no sound.

Only made sound when i manually assisted the reed in the relay to make contact. So although it looked like it should work it wasn't.

Went down the scrap yard got a relay out of a Corrola - same type.

Hey Presto - Working again.
