Washer jets and wipers

Post by ^Trickster^ »

I hate my washer jets, I have known a few people fit different ones that give a nice spray pattern, anyone done this and know what fits?

My drivers wiper comes up in the rain over about 80mph, which is annoying as hell, does anyone know how much new ones are, or an alternative?? I am guessing the springs are getting old and cant hold them down

Thanks

For the washer jets (for my sins) I bought some from Ripspeed/halfrauds. They're crome but not too blingy and give out a wide arc of spray rather than 2 jets. Cost about £6-7 I think and easy enough to fit.

As for the wipers, there seems to be no solution :( I've tried all sorts of different blades, with spoilers and without but to no avail.

People have put additional / bigger springs on and had good results, do a search and see. My solution is to not drive that fast in the rain :)

Dunno if it makes any difference but my driver's side one has a spoiler on it to try and prevent that.

I've got the flat blades to go on mine. Really hope it imporves it. Will try springs after that.

Slarty, can you give some details on the halfords washer jets you got? I'd be happy to paint some up if they had a good spray pattern. Don't fancy the yaris ones as you need to put spacers under them and mess with the pipe connections IIRC.

Cheers,
Ant

I tried the flat bladed wipers too, was worse than with the spoiler.

How do they look? Got any pics? Is the spray still good at speed?

Spray pattern does suffer at speed in that it hits the screen a little lower down that it's set up to do while stationary. Still fine though as they dump so much screenwash onto the screen!

Just took a pic but my camera has died so I'll pop it up for you later :thumleft:

yeah I might have to get me a set of them. Would look pretty plop in chrome on a red bonnet, so think i'll give them a bit of a black touch up. :thumleft:

Yeah I think on anything other than a white car they wouldn't work that well. Still, cheaper than the £14 for Yaris ones!

Yeah definately worth taking a look at. Might try them on my vectra first.

Is the angle of spray easily adjustable?

My wipers used to list off the screen at anything over 70mph. The drivers side was always the worst which is daft as the spoiler is supposed to prevent this, or so I thought. I replaced both the arms with new, problem gone and can drive in the rain up to a ton without the wipers lifting. Not that I'd do such a thing of course! The problem is the springs, they get weak over time. I suppose you could get better springs but I just bought new arms as the old ones were getting manky anyway.
