Post by SuperRedMR2 »

Hi,

My engine mounts are both cracked, and ive read somewhere on here about using Stikaflex in the cracks? What sort do I use as I have looked about and there are a lot of different numbers...

Never heard fo the stuff.

I re-did mine with liquid polyeurothane.
Sourced the stuff from RS:
http://uk.rs-online.com/web/search/sear ... m=199-1395

Drilled some holes in the rubber to allow for the eurothane to completely encompass the existing mount rubber. Then made a backing for the bottom half (laid the mount on it's side). And then filled with the liquid polyeurothane. Allowed to dry/cure. Drilled a few holes through the cured eurothane to allow some flex and re-fitted to engine :thumleft:

SIKAFLEX 291 Black, one tube is all you need for both mounts. When i did mine i cleaned and degreased them using petrol, then built up the sealant to the level of the side of the mount. Use a 6" rule or something similar to smooth it off both sides. Then i heated mine up to aid curing, as i didnt need the car for a couple of days i left them on a radiator.
Ive still got a pack of the RS shore urethane from the first time i tried to repair my mounts and everyone was raving about the stuff. From experience i can say its crap, its too rigid and cracks on first week of use.

I'm not sure about all the variuos grades of Sikaflex that Sika make, but I use 221, both for engine-mount, and for repairing the flexible steering column joint.

221 is very similar when set to the TRD vulcanised rubber mounts: not as solid as PU, more like a hard rubber..... :thumleft:

Dunno what 291 is like, in the flesh.....but if it works, then 8)

Get my 221 from Partco....most factors probably stock it, tho....?

I take it from the above that new engine mounts are either no longer available or very expensive???

About £70 a pop last time I enquired, about 6 years ago. That was for one of the torque mounts I think.

Around £80-£85 from toyota per mount. 2s r us do urethane mount for about the same money but for the pair.
I have the urethane ones but i prefer sikaflex and its about £8 a tube.
