Help Needed With Speaker Wiring Please!

Post by SteveM »

I'm in the middle of replacing my speakers with aftermarket ones, can anyone confirm which is the +ve of the two speaker wires to the front speakers? There's a Blue and a Green (with Brown stipe) but they both seem to be live when the stereos on so does it matter which way around they go to the new speakers? Cheers :)

MK1b wiring
Image

MK1a connections
The colours in brackets are variations that I have come across
light blue(blue/brown) = permanent +12v
pink/blue = ignition controlled +12v
green = +12v from the dash lights, when on
white/black = Earth ( ground )
green = subwoofer remote turn on
white = left speaker -ve
yellow (yellow/black) = left speaker +ve
black/red = right speaker -ve
red (red/black) = right speaker +ve

Hi Jimi, that's brilliant thank you! Can I just to confirm though cos the diagram hasn't copied over that clearly is it the green and the pink that are the positives for the two front speakers (mk1b) ie: the ones with the brown lines round them? Cheers, Steve :D

Just a thought
Make sure you get the correct green, there's 2, the other one is for the dash lighting. The easy way to tell is to use a voltmeter or test lamp, from earth (chassis) to each green in turn, switch your lights on and the one with 12V on it is the dash lights one, double check by switching the lights off and watch the 12V disappear.
