Turbo mileages?

Post by dawolf »

I'm just interested in knowing the mileages on people's turbo's and whether any of you have had to replace the turbocharger yet and if so at what mileage.

I'll start. 93k miles on original CT20b turbo (still going well).

161.5K Miles at present on a CT20b ~15psi

All OK so far, I've been told there is absolutely no sign of smoke on hard acceleration...
Another Anglesey Trackday next month!

PS... Seeing posts below, I should add:
I imported the car in Jan 2000, when it had about 40K on it

at ~9yrs, it's the longest I have ever kept a car!

done about 80,000 miles I reckon

the turbo was refurbished at 50,000 miles due to blown seals

also needed a couple of new pistons due to detonation - this was when I bougth it, so not sure what the previous owner got up to...all the plumbing is standard.

also needed a new clutch about at 70,000 miles

225,000KM and still do regular track days every 2 months. Car runs perfect, still on a ct26 for another 2 weeks then upgrade to a ct20b.

Good to know there are some high mileage ones still going strong. I was a bit apprehensive approaching the 100k mark.

If looked after they are reliable. :thumleft: . Can run lean on cylinder 3 for no apparent reason though :-k

Very true, you just have to go by how it drives and sounds really. Oil consumption is a decent indicator of general health though. You can also check the turbo for shaft play.

How do any of you know if its the original turbo? Surely all you know is that you have never had to replace/refurb it...

I think its much more useful to state what power you are running/setup as this affects longevity greatly.

Mine fell apart at about 58k miles on stock boost, don't know if it was the original turbo though.

51k and sweet as a nut.

As Leeroy points out I have no evidence that the turbo hasn't been replaced but I don't think the previous owner did and he had the car a while...
