Like the two tone though coz it's so 80's

there are white over gold ones, but not many that anybody has ever seen. I've never seen one in the flesh. There is as brochure somewhere of one that i've seen on the web.

The blue ones are more common, well if you call 5 in the UK common!

If you look at the Japanese MR2 Owners Club website, you see a fair few White-over-Gold SE's specc'd up similarly to the Midnight Blue ones

There are actually 4 different limited versions, namely:

While Lanner
Black Edition
Special Edition (2 versions)

1989 VERSION
The last special series AW11 made, was the Super Edition. This one was available only in Japan and was made in a series of 270 cars. These cars were made in 1989 and came with the folowing extra's:

· Midnight Blue paint (code 8E4).
· Recaro 'Milano' seats and matching doorpanels.
· Momo steering wheel.
· Momo gearknob.
· Momo 15" wheels.
· Colour coded electrically folding mirrors.
· Mirror T-bar panels.
· Climate Control with Air Conditioning.
· Gold painted T-top release levers.
· Gold "SUPER EDITION" decals on the doors.
· Gold "SUPER EDITION" decal on visor above the rear window.
· Gold pinstriping down the sides, bumpers and across the rear of the spoiler.
· Gold "Limited" decal in the rear window (on some).

Mecanically these 270 Super Editions were the same as the Super Charger AW11's. So they came with the 4A-GZE engine:
4A-GZE engine - 4 cylinder, 1587cc Twin-Cam 16V & Toyota SC-12 1200cc Roots type intercooled supercharger

1987/1988 VERSION
A white over gold two-tone AW11, options / features on this super edition are very different from the one above; it is a different series of a super edition. 300 cars were made. This car has the following extra's:

· White over gold two-tone paint.
· Bronze tinted glas, including a sunshade-line in the windscreen.
· Pollished 14" Toyota teardrop wheels.
· Momo steeringwheels.
· Momo gearknob.
· Gold "SUPER EDITION" decals on the doors.
· Gold "SUPER EDITION" decal on visor above the rear window.
· Gold pinstriping down the sides, bumpers and across the rear of the spoiler.
· Seats with a combination of leather and alcantara.

I quite like the two tone (Gold and White), bit more classy; as traditional special toyotas tend to have this sort of color; like the 2001 Crown.

Here is mine, currently going through restoration.

Celesa, the 89 Super Edition did not have MOMO 15" wheels, they were just standard diamond polished teardrops.

So what you are saying about the white over gold, is that its a lesser version compared to the midnight blue, ie no recaro interior.

I'm guessing you mean White Lanner, not 'While Lanner'.

Also its a Super Edition, not a Special Edition.

Hello Lauren;

Sorry, I mean Super Edition; mistype.

Hmm you cannot really say is lesser or v.versa as the white/gold version comes with unique alcantara + leather seats which matches with the interior and is not available as an option; all glass are Bronze tinted (T-Bar as well).

The following is also part of the 1987/88 Super Edition:
Gold "Limited" decal in the rear window.

So is just a matter of taste; number wise, there are only 270 89-Super Edition while 300 for 87/88.

Hope this helps :D

As a matter of interest I nearly bought one of these when it came up at a Yahoo auction a year or two back...picture here:

I like them, as you can see the one I looked at was a hardtop, so there are at least two in the world! I just think the price is slightly rich on this one, a bit cheaper and I might of. :)

They are hard to come by; I have a NA and it wasn't until 3 months ago that I manage to locate this 88 Super Edition of mine in Japan.

I shipped it over and began the restoration.

The car has all the super edition bits except, driver seat is replaced by a bucket seat, momo steering wheel removed and tear tops wheels replaced by aftermarket ones. ](*,)

My interest in this was getting the better of me, so I rifled through my wardrobe full of MR2 docs and found this to scan in tonight, apologies for the quality of the scan, and the Japanese nature of the document!

It does seem that the White/Gold SC SE wasnt quite littered with the 'specials' that the 89 Midnight Blue SC SE was, considering the lettering is noted as a special feature!
"If in doubt - just make the numbers up!" ;)
