[Mk2] [Generic] Best place for new t-bar seals?

Post by HighwayStar »

Hey all.
Fairly sure I saw a post recently that linked to a US website selling these much cheaper than we can get over here. Trouble is I can no longer find the post....
Anyone know of this lot or anywhere else I can get new seals without having to lose either an arm or a leg or both? .... Yes, I do know this is asked constantly but then suppliers change constantly too.
Thx.

Would you not consider the old smart repair trick with a bit of black sealant and cling film?

It worked a treat for me - mine has been totally watertight since.

I must admit though that I had a tonne of water ingress one day last week.

(Shortly afterwards I realised it was because I had left the window wound down, not because my repair hadn't worked. What a spaz. #-o  )

Cheers James.
I've done the sealant fix and it's worked fine but at the moment the seals are out while the car is in the bodyshop (getting a bit of rust at the t-bar sorted early along with sills and arches... batter safe than sorry!) and I'm worrying it wont be the same when they go back in.
If they are... sweet! Rather have a plan to hand if not though.

R.

PS. MR2 NA... The sealant trick involves putting black roof and gutter sealant on the rubber on the t-bars themselves, covering with clingfilm then locking back into place. When it's dry you take off the clingfilm and the sealant should have been squeezed into any gaps during the process hence.... no leaks. I did it maybe 2yrs ago along with eccentric guides and have had no problems since. Try a search on t-bar seals and you'll find plenty of info on both sealant and guides...

Hi buddy,

Click this link for a detailed 'how to':-

http://www.imoc.co.uk/forums/kb.php?mode=article&k=123

If your new to the forum you will find some really useful guides under the knowledge base.

The cling film and silicone method has worked a treat for me - my car was leaking like a biatch when i first got her but now she's 100% watertight!

(well at least she is when i remember to wind the windows up...) #-o

Try the eccentric rods from toyota... they pull the tops in closer to the car. Do a search for more info...

Wind noise usually comes from the wing mirrors. Here's how to cure it

Well the eccentric guides will clamp the roof panels tighter but if your seals are knackered then they'll be of limited use. The guides aren't expensive so it's worth a shot :)

The 'weatherstrip' referred to here, is this the one which runs atop the door up to the glass...?
Thanks

It's 2 new seals for the t-bar panels and 2 new seals that run up the A pillar, round the roof and down the B pillar
