Mk1b OE Alarm Intialisation

Post by taylori41 »

Hi guys,

Question on my dad's behalf. He has a very standard mk1b with the origianl factory fit Toyota Alarm.

To cut a long story short the fob stopped working but he now has fixed it. However when he now turns the alarm back on (with the factory shut off metal key) the system activates, shown by the flashing light on the dash.

However the fob (although flashing to say its sending a signal) will not deactivate the alarm.

My question is: Is there an specific reactivation procedure or do the fob need re-pairing with the host unit. All signs show that both devices are working, however the fob will not arm/disarm the alarm.

Any advice would be great.

Thanks

This happened to mine, if its the standard scorpion 738 alarm the remote is hard wired to the alarms freq but does have a adjustment inside to fine tune the signal. I took mine to a alarm specialist but even they couldnt get it to work again.

In the end i scrapped it and went for a newer after market falcon 2 way pager alarm which was pretty much a straight swap. I then added a boot pop and complete closure for the windows. Alarm was £80 including boot pop module and complete closure module.

Just brought a spare key fob for £20 also.

Hmm - probably best to replace with upto date cerificated alarm. Nearly everyone of my mk1's have had one of these each with missing or faulty keyfobs. BTW it would have been dealer fitted in the UK not factory fitted in Japan. HTH :)

Unleash, what alarm have you got for your mk1 and what would you recommend? I'm on a budget. :)

In addition to twiddling the adjuster in the fob on mine, I had to carefully resolder the battery terminals to the board to get it to work reliably. They looked okay at a glance but on very close inspection the solder had developed very fine cracks.

I have a falcon preditor Evo 3 pager alarm....

http://www.in-car-stuff.com/shop/securi ... 21_22.html

For an easy straight swap alarm you can go for something like the XL3. There not CAT certified but then you did say your on a budget.

I also have a CAT2 microscan Mi600 imobiliser so i didnt connect up the fuel pump cut off the alarm has but the Evo 3 is great for the price. It can do pretty much everything you want including what i mentioned above and more like the proximity alarm, remote start, anti hi-jack that will disabled the car 30 seconds down the road if someone hi jacks it.

If you have the factory fit alarm that no longer works these alarms are a straight swap and take less then an hour to fit.

Un1eash, that's an interesting link.

I need to do something about mine - it was disabled by a previous owner(essentially the wires have been cut!)

Just need to know how easy it is - wiring confuses me!

Also, the EVO4 is the same price as the EVO3. Do you know if that's a straight swap too?

The Evo 4 is a straight swap and includes the remote start module, The Evo 3 has the pager module instead. You can but both the pager and remote start module seperate but because i have a second Cat2 imobiliser it was to much hassle to wire up the remote start to bypass this.

Whats left of the old alarm system? As mine was still wired in i simple disconnected each wire from the old system one at a time and reconnected it to the new one. It looks alot more complicated then it is. You dont use alot of the wires and every wire that you need should be behind the passenger seat.

My mk1b has central locking, but no alarm whatsoever. Is this normal? Or has it been removed by a previous owner who seems to have been obsessed with "weight-saving"? (why he did it to a heavier t-bar model is beyond me :? )
As such, how easy would it be to install an alarm from scratch? I, too am on a budget! And does it make a significant difference to insurance premiums?

All mk1's had central locking, just not remote as standard. It wont make much difference to insurance if any as cheap alarms arnt Thatcham, a CAT1 alarm starts at about £250.

You could fit a real simple alarm with remote central locking from £30. This would give you remote locking and a siren that sounds if a door/boot is open.

£250?? Crikey
That's about a third of the entire value of my car! Maybe not then.
Perhaps I'll just get a cheap job, in the fullness of time.
Thanks for your help anyway :thumleft:
