[Mk2] [NA] BHP Increase and Insurance

Post by GHOST »

I've had this particular '2 since March and even though I'd told my insurance company (Sky) about the mods, when I told them about my recentely purchased 17" wheels they said they'd no record of my exhaust and air filter (even though I was explicit about them when I insured her).

Anyway, they've sent me out a form and they're asking for BHP increase for the exhaust and filter. I figure my REV3 N/A as standard is 173BHP right? But any ideas what a twin exit Powerflow exhaust and un-named air filter would add? I'm guessing its minimal (maybe 2 to 5 extra BHP, but I could do with a rough guess/idea for insurance purposes.

I'm even guessing that my '2 would have lost a few horses over the years!

Cheers in advance.

i'd have thought you're about right in your guess around 5bhp on a good day.

i remember my old escort i had, fitted a full magnex system and a K&N induction kit thought it was going to make it into a record breaker, few weeks later had a RR day with the club i was in. now in standard form the 1.8 engine was making 118bhp but by the time i'd spent the best part of £400 quid on it it was making 118.1 bhp ](*,) ](*,)

after so many years the differences could be quite minimal, tbh, you would be doing really well to be hitting standard power :-k , im surprised the person involved in your cover wouldn't have had the common sense to figure that out... :?

You get a little tired of it don't you, but you've got to cover your back in case of an accident and them not paying out.

I would have thought they'd have figured it out for themselves but obviously not.

I was explicit about the exhaust and air filter when I insured her so either the rep was listening to me and mouthing 'blah-blah' to his/her collegue or they just never bothered to note it down at all.

At least you guys got insured by them. When I told them I live in liverpool I was told that I can't have insurance as they wont insure cars here.....
It's really not that bad here, since Capital of culture scallys have started putting cars on piles of books rather than bricks when they steal your wheels.
