[All] [Generic] Has anyone converted a mr2 to lpg?
With the extreme increase in fuel prices now and lets face it, it aint gonna get any lower. it made me wonder if it was possible to convert to LPG and if anyone has already done it. cos unfortunatly the way things are going im gonna have to sell my 2

That was before oil went silly, payback period would be much reduced nowadays.

I did a quick search on this last night, as wanted to see about improved performance from the higher octane fuel, but little luck on that.

I'd also be a little catious of LPG as the reduced prices is only down to a tax hold on LPG which is due to end next April....

i have also had this thought. i looked into (for a different car) once and it was looking to cost around £2000 for the conversion. which is a shame as if you had the money, you could have brilliant fun in the MR2

basically you will need
vaproiser
mixer/injecotrs
inlet manifold
change timing
hotter plugs
gas shut off valve (ran off alternator not battery)
cross over switch
the tank can just be an LPG callor gas bottle with a fixed bracket inthe boot.
thats basically what you need, if you go with a mixer rather than injectors you can just swap out the needle in it for the size of the engine, they even have the cc written on the needl. just like setting up the old carb.
system goes like this
LPG bottle
gas shut off valve (alternator ran)
vaporiser (coolant flowing though before thermostat)
mixer/injectors
plumbing is easy.
now when you start in the morning it will run lumpy as the LPG wont be vaporised untill the coolant has warmed up to vaporise it.
what peopel do is leave it duel fuel, for this you will either have to adapt you inlet manifold to fit a mixer on the top or use LPG injectors. in the moring you start up on petrol, once the car is warm you flick over to LPG
