Bonnet vent

Post by crazybrightman »

hi ive been looking at my track car and im thinking a bonnet vent is really needed. i mean the airflow currently is either forced under the car or hits the front bulkhead after the rad far from ideal and must give front end lift and drag at speed.
is it possible to fit a vent into the bonnet and put some holes in the front bulkhead withour making it too weak and flexing or even worse making the car crumble eaiser in a crash? anyone done it before im sure ive seen one on a mk2 before and even a mk1 years ago?

cheers, neil.

A PapaL vent.

Have a search on Twobrutal or the mr2oc.com. Should bring up a few examples. :thumleft:

hi tonigrmr2 has the front bulkhead just been cut out and a fiber glass scoop fitted in the frunk? looks a very neat job. i spose the paneling is just a flat sheet of alloy or grp to cover up the big void between the spare wheel well and front spliter?

cheers, neil.

Yes the front bulkhead has been 'ventilated' and yes it is a glass fibre scoop. Gartrac did it for me - well known rally specialists. The undersheet is a flat sheet of aluminium - I followed a plan that was worked out some time ago by a wind tunnel specialist....! i.e. there are also another couple of mods, the radiator is tipped at a certain angle for instance.

The one shown in the pics posted by LimeyMk1 can be done without any modification to the front bulkhead - I've got one like that :D
