[Mk2] [Turbo] Breaking car for parts...Is it worth it?

Post by shabz »

(for admin: this is not an attempt to sell...I just really need an idea of what I can get :) )

I potentially have a cracked block, so weighing up future options (obviously after its confirmed)

What kinda money would I get from a rev3 tubby if i broke it?

Considering...

1. Cracked block
2. Rear quarter panel damage

Reckon I could see £2k? I'd be happy with that, considering the situation

if you tot up everything and you have full leather interior and a few aftewr market things you should make 1.5k maybe a bit more depending on what colour and condition of paint work.

If you do scrap it im after some rear drive shafts :D

At the expense of sounding like a vulture I'll have the front bumper and splitter if its in good nick.

I made a tad over 2.5k on mine, But all that came off aftermarket parts.

Standard items will sell but very very slowly, I've still got some bits in the garage from when i broke mine that i just can't get rid of.

It's also no easy task breaking a car, i got completley pi$$ed off with taking bits off, spending hours packing things then hours ordering couriers.

Just been reading your posts. MY car was doing EXACTLY the same as yours and it turned out to be the head gasket had a hairline crack in it which only gave way under boost.Off boost was just fine. Rogue did quite a few tests on her and even after all that they couldn't prove that the headgasket was the cause until the head was removed. Was losing hardly any coolant too.Under boost the temp gauge tended to rise quite high(exhaust gases entering coolant under boost thus instantly rising coolant temperature).

I would have put it down to the HG but mine is a rev3, steel HG don't generally crack, which means it could be something worse...hoping it isn't

how much did rogue charge you for the tests btw?
