[Mk2] [Turbo] New REV5 - Help ID mods - **UPDATE BEEN MAPPED**

Hi all,
picked up a rev5 turbo today that i had imported from japan.. a 98 black tin top (excellent condition - well pleased with it)
Anyway upon lifting the engine lid i could see it had a different turbo on it and a few other bits..which i wasnt expecting..!!!

Had a look in the boot and it has an APEXI ECU.. however i have no AVCR/Hand commander so dont know how to monitor anything.. Also fitted to it is a BLITZ SDC (i think) could this be used to monitor boost and other stuff..???

As you probably know i am clueless about the mechanical side of things so any help gratefully welcome - Also idles a little lumpy therefore quite possible its got uprated cams..??!!??

Drove it easy from Liverpool docks no probs.. got local so i gave it some in 2nd/3rd and it certainly went well... however as soon as the revs got to about 6000rpm the engine light started flashing so i eased off and everything was back to normal.. the light only came on around 6krpm but the car didnt hesitate and there was no missing or anything..??

Sooooooo any ideas..? Apexi boost gauge sat at around 0.8bar when in 2nd gear around 6500rpm...

CEL flashing was probably due to the PFC detecting a knock reading beyond it's "warning" level. The ECU won't actually retard timing or anything, the light flashing is it's only response to knock. probably should take that as a good indication that you need it mapped after you've had the engine checked out and serviced.

the blitz SBC (if it's not an SDC like you say) is a boost controller - could use it to view boost levels (if it's got a screen) and raise boost.

Turbo - any markings on it - manufacturer etc ?
IC - stock or upgraded ?
exhaust - stock or after market ?
induction kit - stock or aftermarket ?

put some pics up and see if anyone can identify the parts maybe ?

As you don't know if any internal works been done, ease off the pedal a bit until you get the car properly checked out. you don't want to grenade the engine when you've just got it.

looks nice tho, and as said, splash is right with the CEL light....
the odd one or two times when mines flashed ive seen knock readings of 50 on the commander.... but as far as im aware, i generally have a noisey engine, so 90% of that isnt actually knock...its only behond 50 that im seeing any at all on my power FC...

Turbo has the following written on it:

Serial No. RHX6 102900
SPEC: VA490032 0108

Any reccomendations as to who i should get working on it.. want someone local and want it doing asap..

The only thing I could find was that the RHX6 is an IHI series of turbo, that's all.

so you bought it without knowing what engine mods it had?
so either way if it was bone stock, or modded it didnt matter??

Yep i was told it was 'modified' and assumed just an exhaust/filter like my other white rev5 that i got last year...

Also has a s/s manifold and the downpipe looks a bit big... will get some pics when its in for a MOT and try get under it.....

Oh and its a GT Turbo so has the folding mirrors... however someone has removed the front foglights....

As for who to look at it, how far is woodsport from you? or Peter giddon is it from sbits?

Rowland - This one is going up fr sale as soon as its registered and serviced/mapped...

Ste - Sbits is about 35/40 miles so not too far away however would prefer someone more local so i can keep on top of them and make sure all is ok with it at the minute The Racing Line in Halifax seems the most likely place..... Although going to ring Peter and ask his advice....

look what i found today lurking between the exhaust....

the mani/downpipe will all be part of the turbo kit. oil cooler you found by the exhaust.

that 1st pic of the engine... the can above the air filter.. is that connected to the fuel tank breather pipe?
