[Mk2] [Generic] Carbon Fibre Door Cards

Post by monkeyra »

I've just come across some carbon fibre door cards for the MR2 on ebay:

Has anyone bought a set yet? The price seems extremely reasonable to me.

Hey!

That is my friends busness. He goes to Uni with me and has produced some very nice parts. He used mt '92 Rev 2 Turbo to patern the door cards. I don't know if he has actually made a set as yet for the MK2's but looking at my door I think that the flat design is going to have some issues with the wireing that runs to the swich pack for the windows and mirrors.

Mike

I will prolly do these once I move some wireing out of the doors.

Would be good to get someone in the UK making CF bonnets at a good price, he'd make a fortune on here if they were the right price. Also any other parts he could do at the right price, if he gets the chance, know how busy students are.

The issues with group buys is the cost involved in the moulding tool. If he invests in making the tool it sets him back £xxx pounds and takes him many hours of time. if then people then drop out of the group buy he is out the cost of the tool and selling bonnets at an overall loss. This has happened on a GB for the MK1 Golf crew. 20 poeple said they wanted a part made (dash i think) then 5 put money up front and the others bailed or wont put money up front leaving 5 people grumbeling that they dont have dashes yet and Mike not having enough ££ to even build the tool.

If he was sure he could move all the 'brake even batch' he may be willing to do a set but I think it may have to be a money up front type of deal. Oh and to create the mold he would need a straight bonet to use. Though in the process the bonet would be damaged beyond use.

I can approach him and find out details. I know he is about to finish the year off so is neck deep in CW and exams so really wont have the time for the next 3-5 weeks or so.

Skinner,

Duly noted, you willing to let it go?

Mike,

You can have the bonnet, I didn't pay much for it and was only going to carve it up for an aero project, I just don't have time at the moment so its yours.

Right I mentioned it to my firend and he would love to have a more indepth chat in approx 3 weeks. Once I know more i'll post up with the info. Do I need to be an affiliate to organise a group buy?

Nope. I want to see one fitted to an MR2 door, as i'm not convinced it'd look all that, once the cutout's for the electric window switch and stuff were done.

The price is good though, but i'm not parting cash without seeing some proper photo's!
