Hi All,
I'm taking my MR2 out of hibernation and need to get an MOT done, my fog was fitted into the drivers side reversing light with a switch and a painted bulb, I replaced the painted buld with a 12 LED red light for the last MOT but the MOT fella said it wasn't really bright enough.
Does anyone know what the best red bulbs are? I have seen these on Ebay and wondered if they would be any good or do I need to add something to the clear light cluster to reflect more red light? http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/24-LED-Car-Tail-S ... dZViewItem http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/CHROME-SILVER-RED ... dZViewItem
Cheers,
Jon
Yeah, why do you want to change it? you cant see it when its on.
Mine is bright enough to annoy the silly buggers behind me whenever they forget to turn off their main beams

Hi Lauren, Yes it is, the guy that imported the car painted a standard 21W bulb Reb and it gave a slightly pink glow through the white reversing light!
I've just checked it again it is quite bright so I'll just buy a proper 21W red bulb I think, although looking at these on Ebay they say they arn't road legal, will they fail the MOT for a red bulb?
Cheers,
Jon

Jeez. If when you put it in the light is reasonably bright it will pass won't it?
Is the lens not red then?
As soon as it passes remove foglight and pack away till next mot.
If you are really struggling, just buy a whole foglight assembly and wire it up. Surely it would be impossible to fail you then.
Sounds like your MOT tester is seriously

clear lense red tinted bulb
MOT tester just doing his job
probably better tinting the lense and leaving the fog set up permanantly
mine as most others (probably!) only gets switched on for MOT
The MOT doesn't take into account the lens colour, as long as it's red light that shows and it's bright enough,it should pass.
Reasons for failure
6. A mandatory rear fog lamp
a. is missing, does not emit a steady red light or emits a light other than red
b. incomplete, not in good working order or not visible from a reasonable distance
c. is insecure, obscured or not facing to
the rear
d. flickers when tapped lightly by hand
e. tell-tale does not work
f. adversely affected by the operation of
any other lamp. 7. A rear fog lamp switch
a. missing
b. faulty
c. insecure
d. not able to be operated from the normal driving position.
Clear lens with amber tinted bulb, my rear lights have passed 3 MOT's no problem, not a word said.

Black is not a colour ! .... Its the absence of colour
Thanks for the advice everyone
I emailed a guy on Ebay who told me that the LED lights with 24+ LED's on will be very bright through a clear lens so I've ordered these: http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll? ... :IT&ih=015
My fussy MOT chap shouldn't be able to moan about that not being bright enough, if he does I'll show him this as all of these things are met on my car providing it's bright enough:

Fitting a low foglight assembly is a very last resort, I think I'd rather go to another MOT tester!
^^^ I used a 24 LED bulb in JDM lights fitted to a past mk1. Tbh it wasn't bright enough, and decided to retro fit a separate fog light below the bumper using one of the studs for the bumper retaining strip. Felt it was better to have the car visable in adverse conditions rather than the minor vanity gained by it not being there. HTH
