Biggest numpty award goes to....

Post by viperrr »

... me.

I feel like such a muppet. It's was raining, I wasn't be careful enough when I came out of a roundabout, span it and went sideways into a post.

The police said I could drive it home, which was only 2 miles away. Everything felt fine.

The door took most of the force though (only about 15mph at the time of impact), so it might be repairable with just a new door and that sill being pushed out.

I hate myself right now. ](*,)

That looks nasty, but could be worse. :(
At least you are OK

New door and sideskirt and pull out the sill should be fairly easy to repair. I have the parts, but the door is white, maybe someone else closer can help. If you need the bits let me know :thumleft:

Hmmm doesn't look to bad....I reckon that should polish out with a bit of elbow grease!!! :-k

Seriously though - I hope you're OK and the car isn't too difficult\costly to put right!!

Unlucky.

Doesn't look that bad at all, but when you get it straight take it for a four-wheel alignement done. :+:

In a way it's surprising this doesn't happen more often with MR2s.

I did the same thing when I first got my mk1b (although luckily I didn't hit anything)

I exited a slip road onto a big three lane dual carriageway in the pouring rain.

I used too much throttle and ended up fishtailing side to side across all three lanes trying to gather the car up again. It almost span on at least two fishtails.

I've since learned how to avoid over correcting the steering (at least I hope I have... ) and I always drive sensibly in the wet.

You really feel the weight in the back of the car when it starts to swing around.

Very common in the 200SX world too. Glad you're okay!

Get it back into shape and then get some trackdays and advanced driving tuition in to stop you bending it again!

I know how you feel.

I went into the back of a VW polo at 8mph, yes 8mph! And the amount of damage it made was horrendous!

Since having all 4 nearly new tyres now, I do find it very hard to lose control, which is a good thing. But i just havent got the courage to really push it on a wet roundabout these days (girlfriend in car doesnt like it).

Yes, this is a good idea.

Cheers for your comments guys, It looks like all I need is a new door, mirror and skirt - so not too bad at all!
I've got a couple of great offers from forum members, which really shows what a helpful bunch of people you all are :)

I was planning on taking some advanced / trackday course anyway, and I'm most certainly going to do it now - I really got away lucky and I don't ever want this to happen again.

A lesson has be learnt, albeit the hard way

Sorry to hear of your misfortune :(

I really think some track driving with some tuition will be really good.
I love doing wet trackdays as I really get a chance to push and play with the car in relative safety.
Bookatrack offer really good Open Pit Lane Days (best value for money) with professional ARDS instructors on-board for tuition - £20.00 for 20 minutes. Nothing else will teach you more on track and BaT garantee this.

Keep your eye on the motorsport and trackday section for days coming up. I think we're due another big one soon 8)
