[Mk2] [NA] Sometimes revs won't drop below 3000rpm

Post by freakyeke »

If I am driving on the motorway for any length of time, at say 4000rpm, if I release the throttle, the revs seem to stick at 3000rpm?
If I rev the car, the revs still won't drop below 3000rpm :?

The only way I can bring the revs down is by slowing the engine through the gears and/or brakes (getting it below 3000rpm)

It's un-nerving as I approach an exit junction and the engine is pushing me along at 3000rpm whilst I'm braking 8-[

I don't know if it's because my MR2 is powered by LPG or just a common MR2 problem?

Thank to anyone who can help :thumleft:

Mine started revving uncontrollably at times. Took me a while to realise my floor mat was slipping forwards and making the accellerator stick

If your throttle isn't sticking, maybe try this?

One day mine wouldn't go below 2000rpm. I found that the rubber seal on the throttle cable (where the steel cable exits from the plastic sleeve) had come loose and got jammed in the throttle mechanism. Nice and easy to put it back where it should be.
