[Mk2] [NA] Problems since Dizzy cap change

Post by poser »

I changed my Dizzy cap and rotor arm two weeks ago. For the first week, things were great - the old one was knackered, so the engine was now feeling very smooth and I was generally chuffed.

Last Saturday I washed the car, then it was very cold on the Saturday night. It wouldn't start on the Sunday morning (it would fire up, hit 1,000 rpm then die immediately and cut out). I left it for half an hour, reset the ECU, and it was ok.

This week it sometimes doesn't feel like it's firing on all cylinders and the engine (electrical) light comes on. Then again, sometimes it's fine and is firing ok. The leads were definitely all in the right place and they are attached properly.

It's been too dark still to get into the engine to check the dizzy cap again.

Any ideas what could be up? :-k

think you can get a new rubber seal or something for the dizzy for when its replaced to stop damp getting in. Maybe worth a look.

Also quite likely... Water in the Spark Plug wells (top of the engine)

Lovely stuff, thanks guys.

I'll have a good poke around this weekend and dry everything off. The Dizzy cap didn't come with a seal so I'll see what I can do to patch it up.
